Mr. Chewy Donates food in South Florida

Whew… what a busy week!’s Shelter & Rescue Program donated over 3,000 lbs of pet food to nonprofit no-kill rescues and shelters in three counties across South Florida. The best part of our busy week? Meeting all of the wonderful animal lovers and witnessing the incredible things they are doing for so many cats and dogs in need.

Many of the rescues we donated food to actually rescue animals from local animal services that are typically high-kill facilities. The sad truth is, thousands of animals are euthanized each year due to lack of space in county shelters. Many of the animals euthanized are strays picked up on the streets, but an alarming number are actually family pets surrendered by the owners or lost and never claimed. The wonderful rescues we partnered with work so hard to give every cat and dog (and future family) a chance at a happy life, and it was a joy getting to meet them.

The massive amounts of food these rescues go through on a daily basis isn’t their only obstacle. One of the challenges the rescues I visited have to deal with is the same struggle the county shelters face: a lack of space. Please consider adopting your next friend from one of these rescues. Every time an animal is adopted from a rescue, they have space to save one more from a high-kill shelter.

The animals I met are extremely well cared for and seemed very content, but they’re still waiting for an owner to play fetch with, or to curl up and purr beside on a rainy day.

To the rescues I visited: thank you, thank you, thank you. We look forward to continuing to partner with organizations like yours that enable tails to keep wagging every single day.
