One of my cats has early kidney disease (at 11 yrs. old). The vet told me to find a "senior" diet with low phosphorus - the cat had levels a bit higher than the vet would like to see - and slightly lower protein than her current food, and to stick with a canned food (and add water) because the cat needed all the hydration I could get into her. I found Hill's Science Diet Mature Adult Tender Chicken Dinner canned cat food. The cat loves it and indeed seems to be feeling better on this diet. The blood tests haven't been repeated yet - that comes later - so I'm not sure if the levels have in fact improved, but I'll be surprised if they haven't.
Moreover, my other cats love this food also; keeping them out of it has become a recurring challenge. One of them is several years younger, and the vet was definite in saying that she needs her regular food, although small amounts of the senior diet wouldn't hurt her, and another is allergic to chicken (but loves it), so keeping him out is imperative. I'm delighted, though, to find a senior food that is so popular.

Our 14 year old cat loves this chunky chicken. She laps up the gravy, which gives her additional moisture in her diet, and we find it very easy to serve her half a can at time (no scraping involved): a win-win!

Rated 4 out of 5 by fuzzysmom good choice for my mature cat
my cat is now 14 yrs old and has begun to show early signs of kidney disease. Hence, the vet has recommended food with low protein. After much trial and tribulation, I found this food satisfies my picky fur ball the best. He also likes the tuna variety for change.

The food comes fast, it's takes very little time to place an order and it's cheaper than buying it locally.
