Finally a food that helps my cat We have a 14 year old cat with severe allergies. This is the only food that has halted the spread of her skin deterioration. Our other cats now have much shinier coats since eating this food. February 14, 2012
excellent quality, cats love it, un-"contaminated" by trace proteins This product line of prescription cat food is of very high quality, comes in a resealable bag to keep it fresh, and is a limited-ingredient food with no trace proteins in it. That's why you have to pay so much for it - they can't just use their regular facilities and vats to make it in. I use the Venison and Green Peas dry food for cats, which was renamed only to "Hypoallergenic" for some reason. I mention this because it causes a lot of confusion if you try to order it or ask for it and a store's system or staff only know it by the one name. One cat is allergic, but the other is not. They both love the food and would eat it up. When I had to care for a friend's cat for 6 months for him, the new cat also loved the food and thrived on it. It was such an improvement over the cheap food he had been able to afford for her before, that her coat became much shinier and she became sleeker. So, we know that 3 out of 3 cats, at least, like it and thrive on it. The shape is a triangular kibble, medium brown, smaller than a dime. I can't think of a good size reference except they're about the size of my fourth fingernail (the one next to the pinky; I am female). It's a crunchy dry food. Why would you buy this food: Severe allergies, primarily. My cat had to stop eating anything with chicken in it because he developed an allergy to it when he was about 10. Even trace bits of chicken protein are enough to cause a reaction. Most petfood facilities reuse their vats according to whatever food needs to be mixed or cooked, and they don't normally need to clean them out before switching ingredients. Unfortunately that's enough trace chicken protein getting mixed into a food to cause gastrointestinal distress or diarrhea - hence the need for a food made in vats never used to make other foods (or sterilized afterwards). I wish it were cheaper, but it's worth the high price for this food. When I tried to switch to another nonprescription catfood (Dick Van Patten's, something limited ingredient duck I think. It might work for you because it worked for some clients of my vet, but not me), the cats did not like it and the guest cat actually lost almost half her body weight (very unsafe for cats!), which meant a vet bill and lots of worry and guilt and potential liver damage to the cats, and in the end it cost more to buy cheaper ones! (Not to scare anyone, but I was shocked at this result as I did not know how dangerous it is for cats to lose weight rapidly because of their livers not being able to tolerate processing bodyfat very long. The change and decline in eating also triggered a decline in overall health that possibly made my one cat start to have heart and other problems a few months sooner too.) Mr. Chewy's service is great, and it is cheaper than buying it from the local vet. Their delivery was SUPER fast overnight. They ship overnight by default. I ordered around midnight timeframe, and got it in a day, which was fantastic because I was out of it and desperately needed it. I gave them the vet's phone and fax numbers in the ordering process, and they contacted the vet the very next morning they were open. Very smooth and I didn't have to worry about the prescription transfer. Normally I buy 2 bags at a time to avoid these situations and to reach the free shipping minimum. I strongly recommend you do too, once you know you want them. So, to summarize: cats eat it up, top quality, guaranteed free from other nonlisted ingredients, and Mr. Chewy makes it worry-free to order May 14, 2012
Excellent service. My cat who has IBD is tolerating this product well and he improved quickly. The service from this company was excellent. I've been recommending it to all my pet lover friends. Pricing is unbelievable. Shipping is quick and easy. I can't say enough about it. Called my vet's office back to thank them for the recommendation. May 14, 2014
Saved the Day! My two domestic shorthair cats (ages 11 & 12) were vomiting several times a day. Vet said probably allergies to chicken. I was worried about weight loss and overall health and the carpet wasn't doing all that well either! I now use both the dry with a small amount of the canned food each morning when handing out meds. They're content, look great and except for the occasional hairball, things are much nicer. True, the cost means making a sacrifice, but it's the sane thing to do. May 24, 2012
Just What My Cat Needed My cat ate this as a kitten to try and address digestive upsets. He went off it when the older cat in the house needed to be on a kidney failure diet. Since the older cat passed away I'd been using one of the high quality ancestral type foods that is 100% meat. My cat gradually lost weight and his appetite wasn't very good. The vet believes he has a poultry allergy (chicken, turkey and duck) so I switched back to Royal Canin Green Peas and Rabbit. Within 2 months my cat regained the several pounds he'd lost and is much more energetic. His coat is nice and shiny and he loves this food, both dry and canned. It's expensive food, but what my kitty needs. The other 2 cats love it as well and one who had a dandruff problem no longer has it. April 28, 2012
Rabbit and Pea Prescription Food My cats preferred the Pea and Duck Formula. They liked the Evo Salmon and Herring even more. February 14, 2012
My cat who has enteropathy loves this prescription food and looks forward to eating it. This product is fantastic. It was prescribed to our cat after a diagnosis of enteropathy. She is doing fine and loves the food. Thank you. March 20, 2015
This is the only hard food our dear little sweet cat can eat. Thank heavens for this product! Our sweetest little cat can only eat prescription food due to the animal version of irritable bowel syndrome, and this food is it! She gets sick when she eats other food. She actually relishes the taste, and the crunchiness. The people have sent absolutely fresh food, which can't be vouched for in the major pet food stores. Royal Canin and both have made four-legged and two-legged best friends for life. March 2, 2015
