Addiction New Zealand Brushtail & Vegetables Entree Canned Dog Food
Novel protein, no chix fat or other
My 7lb poodle developed "leaky gut" at 9y.o. I almost lost him!! I now buy all of his food from Chewy. Chewy list all of the ingredients for all of it's products. Read these carefully. Some have chix fat or "liver" not specifying which species. My boy is in good health now as we continue to taper his prednisone and feed him novel proteins. I am leaving this same review for the products I am using with good results. CHEWY is a great vendor as it lists ALL ingredients for ALL of the products it sells. CHEWY is my knight in shining armor. Before CHEWY I was at my whits end as duck wasn't helping. I was cooking cod filets and worrying about him having a balanced diet. Thank you CHEWY!

Recommend for certain needs or uses
Pet parents will have to make up their own minds about this brand and food. There are several very good qualities about Addiction Brushtail with Vegetables, and a few not-so-good or questionable. I happen to have a need for unique sources of protein for my two, large, highly allergic dogs, so I sometimes have to take what I can find/get!
The Good News:
Both dogs love it.
It smells great, like a red meat stew. Looks like one too, with a thick broth and identifiable vegetables and small chunks of meat.
There were absolutely no issues with transitioning both dogs to this food or with the first can. I opened it; they ate it (as if there were no tomorrow).
Brushtail is the first ingredient on the ingredient list, while venison is the second. There is no indication of the percentages or proportions of each meat source in the final "brew." That is not necessarily a deal-breaker. However, Addiction labels this food as "New Zealand Brushtail and Vegetables," not New Zealand Brushtail and Venison and Vegetables. So, it would be interesting to know exactly how much of the meat is actually brushtail. Then there are several high-protein vegetable ingredients and dried seaweed meal. I was very glad to see that last ingredient, because seaweed is supposed to be a great source of nutrients for dogs with allergic or sensitive stomachs.
This food also has many added vitamins and minerals.
This food is totally grain-free, with no added preservatives, by-products, glutens or artificial anythings.
The description on the can indicates that brushtail is high in Omega 3 Fatty Acids. In fact, the stated percentage of Omega 3 is #min.# 2.3%, which is very high, even for premium dog foods and brands.
Addiction Foods seems to be an environmentally friendly and holistically intelligent dog food manufacturer.
Now for the Not-so-good news:
The price of this food is much higher than most other premium brands, so it will definitely not fit all budgets. My dogs happen to be allergic to all the usual suspects #beef, chicken, lamb -- oh happy days#. So, as I said, I cannot be too terribly picky about my unique sources of protein. If you are blessed to have dogs with "normal" digestion, which can eat all the usual meat sources, there really is not much reason for you to spend so much money on this brand.
Crude Protein #min.# 9% - OUCH!! I cannot figure out this one at all and I wish that someone would explain it to me. How is it possible that a very expensive, premium dog food without grains or additives or preservatives, with 2 meat sources starting off the ingredient list and at least 2 protein-boosting veggies right on their heels only have a protein content of 9%?!
On the other hand, Crude Fat #min.# is listed as 2%. That is an exceptionally low fat food especially among premium brands. So, if your dog does not have a high protein requirement but can use a very low fat content, this one is for you!
There is no mention that the added mineral supplements are chelated for easier digestive absorption.
Oh ... and did I mention price ... ?!
So, yes, I will continue to purchase this canned dog food unless and until I find another unique meat source which is also cheaper. I'm hoping that someone will come out with an ostrich flavor soon. Can't believe that it is taking this long ....
But, as always, I am immensely grateful to Chewy.com for having and maintaining such a huge variety of dog food brands and flavors, including the ones that likely are not top sellers #just about every one that my dogs eat!#. I would REALLY have no hair, trying to find newer and different meat types, if it weren't for Chewy!

Unique protein, great for allergy dogs
This is a great dog food! Love the food, but not the current price; more expensive than other internet pet food companies, including manufacturers retail price; not good!!

Great low fat product
We bought this food four our 7 months old puppy who has a sensitive stomach and some digestive issues. She suffered from chronic diarrhia from high fat dog food. She needed a low fat, but high protein food with a unique meat source we've never tried before. So we finally found this Brushtail canned food and we are more than satisfied with this product. It looks appetizing, smells good and our puppy loves it. We feeding her this food for 3-4 weeks - diarrhea has gone! Thanks for this excellent product!

This Is Awesome Food; Don't Worry that it Is "Possum.'
Since I began feeding this product, my dog no longer suffers with diarrhea as he did with other expensive brands. Addiction is high in protein with added veggies, no preservatives, no grain. And most important, my Malshih now looks forward to mealtime. Dog Food Adviser gives this food 5 stars, its highest rating.
