Rated 3 out of 5 by CairnsNtollers Teaches your dog to pull if not used correctly
If you wish to teach your dog to pull, a retractable leash is the perfect item. Just the physics of opposition reflexes encourages the dog to lean into his collar or harness and pull to get further and further in front of you. Because of this pulling action I would never recommend this for puppies.
Once your dog understands how to walk nicely on a regular leash then the flexi can be an enjoyable way to walk. But it's helpful if your dog understands when you tell it not to pull or call it back to your side.
Never grab the rope part of the leash as you may suffer rope burns on your hands. Be careful not to drop the leash because the handle may frightened a dog as it comes bouncing behind the dog.
For a well-behaved adult dog with an owner that is informed as how to use the Flexi correctly it can be a useful tool for relaxing long walks. Make sure to purchase the correct size Flexi for your dog.

Rated 4 out of 5 by GusdogMerlincat I ordered it online and it was actually smaller in the grip then I expected.
I have another one that has been well used that has a slightly bigger grip and I thought I was ordering the same one this time. That's on me and I know from past experiences that the great folks at "Chewy.com" would gladly replace it but I decided to keep it because it works very well just like the other one I've had for years and my wife likes this one better. I should have given it 5 stars cause the product is great and the service is "absolutely excellent" but I don't care for it quite as much as the other so hence the dropped star, folks with smaller hands would likely see it differently as my wife does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by ccmm Easy to Use
I'm impressed with this leash. It is easy to use, I can lock and unlock it with one hand. The grip feels good in my hand and doesn't slip around.
The cord is nice and thick and it is quiet when it reels in and out.

These leashes are great, especially for my little chihuahua's. They don't have a lot of tension and they expand and retract very smoothly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by OhBichonPlease We love this leash!
This is my first retractable leash that continues to work and I love it and my Bichon loves it too! We got the small leash because she isn't much of a puller, and when it is attached to her harness, she seems like she feels free [we have not used the safety collar attachment that came with it even though they say to]. The leash does take some practice to use properly [swing your arms to lessen the snap back], but the leash brake and lock both work very well [though can make an awful sound if your thumb is depressing the button at all while the cord retracts]. I like the cord and tape combo - the tape part is doubled, does not retract into the leash [so it's like a heeling leash when retracted and locked] and extends just past my dog's body. The cord is light and strong, but can get wrapped around bushes or car bumpers if you have an explorer.
It is harder to control your dog on a retractable leash and they should not be used on public walkways or places that allow dogs - like pet stores or patio restaurants because so many people cannot use them properly. They are illegal in some places. You also cannot use leash corrections with a retractable. But they are great for practicing recalls!
If two dogs meet and circle and both have retractable cord leashes, it can be a bit of a time to untangle [but this is a great way to bond with neighbors with dogs!].
The handle is comfy and light [we decorated ours with stickers for extra personalization], but just a bit too big to put with my hand into my winter coat pockets. I have had it pulled out of my hands once or twice, so don't get complacent with holding it if your dog could get excited and run off quickly with little or no notice. You always have to be holding the handle, so it is not as convenient as having a handle loop on a traditional nylon leash if you might need both hands during your walk [like, I take my dog to our apartment's laundry building, but have to just set the leash handle on the ground while I move the washing into the dryer]. My leash has skimmed across pavement and grass and flooring, and although a little rougher around the edges, seems to be holding up just fine.
Made in Germany, very high quality and [I think] a lifetime guarantee.
