Product Description

As dogs age, they may require food designed to help reduce nutrient excesses that could be harmful to their system. For example, high levels of sodium, phosphorus and protein can cause increased workload in the kidneys and heart. Kidneys are very important to the health of your dogs because they remove waste substances from the blood and maintain the normal balance of fluid and minerals within the body. Once kidney damage occurs, the consequences are usually irreversible. The heart is the most important organ in you pet's body, and factors such as age or weight may affect its function. Poor heart health can affect your dog's lifestyle and mood. Because the food your dog eats plays an important role in his or her overall health and well-being, at Hill's, nutritionists and veterinarians developed clinical nutrition especially formulated to support your older dog's kidneys and heart for overall health.

  • Reduced sodium to help maintain normal blood pressure

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Dogs love it I'm not eating it of course, but the three restaurant critics I live with, love it. May 26, 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Not a good fit for my dogs. Both my dogs gained weight with GD and had loose stools all the time. Switched back to WD. Disappointed to loose the benefits of GD but not sustainable as a daily diet. March 20, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by This is a prescribed food. I wish the kibble came in smaller pieces for my toy dog with dental issues. January 28, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by dog loved it from start A 15 year old beagle girl with cushings, kidney & thyroid problems & on medications began not eating most of her regular food. Her vet recommended GD. Now she loves to eat both the canned & dry GD equally well. December 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great results ! I have a 10 year old Samoyed that has had problems with wetting the bed and accidents in the house. We have tried several diet changes with no luck. When my vet suggested to try G/D, what a difference! No more accidents and she is acting like a puppy ! The diet made a great difference ! October 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Low in phosphorus G/d is low in phosphorus and good for my dogs' kidneys- they both love the taste. I even use pieces of the kibble as training treats outside of mealtime. November 4, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by this dog food has a great feature My dog loves this s food and really helps with his stomach September 17, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by food rating My one year old pup was just recently diagnosed with renal kidney dysplasia in both kidneys. :( We are not sure how long he will live for, but we were told to get him this food to try and help his kidneys in the meantime. Luckily, he has had no problem with the taste of the food or treats! Ever since we changed his diet I noticed he is pooping less (so his body is able to absorb some of the nutrients he was lacking before). Also, he now has way more energy and is acting the like normal playful puppy he should be, at his age! I just wish they sold bigger bags than 8.5lbs of dog food. I'm guessing it is probably because it is a prescription diet? September 17, 2014
