I have just begun to use the JD for my 13 year old arthritic Lab. He is so young at heart. He is once again rolling in the grass with legs flying everywhere. It brings tears to my eyes to see him more active again. As for the folks at Chewy.com, you can't find anyone more caring. Thanks for being there!

Rated 3 out of 5 by Westies2 Not tasty to my two dogs
As with all Hills prescriptive diet foods, it is a matter of necessity for one reason or another health problem, not taste. My dogs are used to home-made fresh meats and lots of veggies, which they prefer hands down to dry or canned dog foods.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Gage810 amazing results
My chocolate lab had bilateral acl surgery before he was 2yrs old. After those surgeries we found that he had bilateral elbow dysplasia. It's hard seeing ur 5 year old act so much older. After about a month on the dry and wet food, I saw a lot of changes. His limping after exercise went down about 80%. It was remarkable. And the interesting thing that I noticed the most was his increase in energy and personality. It made me realize that he was in more pain and had more stiffness before the food. The only issue I have is with the weight gain. If anyone has a lab, you know weight is a constant issue. I originally had him on a low calorie food and was feeding him 2 cups twice a day. He is a big lab so getting him down to 90 lbs was great. He looked very lean. But the j/d food is a lot higher in calories. So I cut it down to 3 cups a day. And he's gained probably 8lbs. Labs already act so hungry all the time, it's hard to cut the food down any further. I refuse to feed him a cup at each meal. So it's hard because it's either fat and happy, or lean (which is better on his joints) and the added stiffness that comes with it =( But if weight isn't an issue. This food is absolutely worth it! All the joint supplements and pain meds and anti-inflammatory pills aren't needed anymore, making the price of the dog food worth it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by dogsbody Big improvement in my dog's mobility
We noticed a big improvement in our dogs mobility a week or so after starting this food. (He has arthritis in his back legs & hips.) We had previously been giving him dasequin (not sure of spelling) and omega 3 supplements supplied by the vet, because we did not initially want to change his food. But the vet said this would work better than the supplements, & she was correct. We had been feeding him the dry J/D, but use the wet food in addition because now we have to hide a med in it. Make a great doggie "meatball". ;-)
Highly recommend-but you will need a prescription.

Rated 5 out of 5 by uvlaw Vet Recommended, Really Helps
We have a 5 year old Llewlyn (English) Setter, who is very active and runs like the wind, but recently started pulling up lame, and started having trouble getting up. We took her to a major vet school, and a vet who is an expert in canine arthritis, and a well known veternary surgeon.
He diagnosed our dog with severe hip dysplasia and/or hip arthritis. Eventually he wants to replace her hip, but for now he recommended the Hill's J/D prescription dog food, which he says contains a large content of fish oil, which is rich in omega fatty acids, and which he said cuts back on inflammation which is big part of arthritis.
He seems to have been right. We've been feeding our Setter the Hill's j/d for a couple of months now, and she really seems to be moving better, and in less pain. It really seems to have helped.
