Rated 3 out of 5 by Not stable enough for indoors The 42 inch Ex-pen is not stable enough for inside. The plastic seam joiners that are to be attached do nothing. In fact, one came off and my puppy was chewing on it. I took them all off. The 42" height adds to the instability. Smaller dogs that can use shorter height pens might be fine. My puppy is a three month old Spinone female about 30 some pounds. This product would be fine for outdoors as metal stakes are included. I called the company to make sure the "stabilizers" were correctly installed;they were. I was told the pen was for outside. If I had known that, I would not have planned to use it inside. I am going to stabilize with pvc pipe. I have to brace the pen with objects, so it does not shift and move all over the floor. Without additional bracing , I think she could upend it in the future. I like the door;it is convenient. The pen folds down easily and isn't too heavy. The company needs to figure out a better bracing system or advertise it for outdoor use only. May 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Didn't work for me but AWESOME Customer Service I have a 11 week old Malinois puppy that escaped this in the first 5 minutes and continued to escape despite me blocking, latching, and doing all sorts of things to keep him in. I was chatting with a rep and questioning an alternative. Not only was the rep super awesome he was a mal owner as well. Well I got an upgraded option for my Houdini coming and they told me to donate this pen to a rescue group so they can use it for a more appropriate breed. I did not expect a refund or that so I am so pleased. It isn't often a company makes me smile but Chewy has and now has a customer for life. The actual pen is awesome. Would be great for a much less determined breed and even better outside with the additional anchors. May 19, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good for dogs who are not Houdinis This has been our go-to temporary fence for a couple of years now due to a combination of low price and ease of setup/tear down. By itself, it's really not so great as an exercise pen for anything but small dogs and puppies. However, slap a couple of these together and strategically place between two connecting walls and you've got a winner. We use them at my in-laws house when we visit as they don't have a fenced yard; also used to cordon off part of the garage. Warning: the secret to this is the formation. These will not be secure if placed in a straight line unless posts or the like are used. These otherwise must be placed in an arc-type pattern. Also: As is, I do not think these would stop a dog who is determined to get out. Tweaking would be needed. Finally, this product gets 4 stars instead of 5 as I am not a big fan of the door. For instance, due to the configuration needed for my garage, the door handle ended up being on the inside of the pen. February 2, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good product, and the best price I've found We purchased a 2' tall exercise pen about three years ago, and are very pleased with it. Recently, we needed to provide a safe place for an elderly large dog for friends. We didn't have accommodations for the dog where she could have shelter in an outbuilding and also have access to the outdoors to potty. We ordered two of the 4' tall exercise pens, and received them the next day!! Using the side of the outbuilding as one of the sides, and leaving the door partially open on the outbuilding, we were able to quickly fashion a roomy outdoor area to keep the dog contained and allow her to go in and out as needed. Our ground is soft and uneven, so the included stakes couldn't secure it really well. We placed longer metal stakes (the ones that are used with electric fences and were only $1.29 each at a farm supply store) around the perimeter, shoved them into the ground and used box ties to secure them to the fencing in order to make it more stable. That temporary solution wouldn't work for a younger or active dog, but it worked beautifully for the senior dog, who wasn't up to challenging the barrier. We would highly recommend these Midwest exercise pens, and also highly recommend purchasing them from Chewy.com. Shipping was fast and free, and at $149 for both pens, the price can't be beat. Rated 5 out of 5 by I bought two!! These pens are just what I needed in order to keep my puppy safe and happy. My puppy's crate has two doors. One on the end and another on the side. I attached one 30" pen to each side of my puppy's crate door to create a wonderful play area for him when I'm busy around the house. I ever have to detach the pen because ket him in and out via the end door The 2nd crate I leave folded up in the garage. It's so easy to pick it up and put on the grass under the magnolia tree in the side yard Puppy gets to sniff and play and I can easily move it to keep it in the shade. Of course, I never leave him unattended while he's outside. Too many raptors in the sky. . One more thing. To easily get the pen out of the shipping box, open the box and then turn the whole thing upside down so that you're lifting the box off the pen, not lifting the pen out off the box. Much easier. Rated 5 out of 5 by Ideal exercise pen This exercise pen is exactly as described. It easy to assemble; it is easy to adjust to the space available and the size of the pet. Ideal pen for safely leaving a pet unsupervised. The only negative is the finishing of the metal wires at the door. The ends of the vertical wires are rough. I put insulating tube over the wires so they don't scratch my puppies tummy when she steps in, and remove it when I close the door so she doesn't chew on it. A small inconvenience with an otherwise excellent product. May 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect for Condo/Apt deck usage We live on a 2nd floor condo that has glass rails but a space that a little one could slip right through. This pen is "perfect". We keep it opened and anchored each end to a wall or post....he goes out our door right on the patio. It's sturdy...holds up to his leaning against, etc. Yes, if he ran full force into it, it would move a little and may come dislodged; however, it's been up for a few weeks and that hasn't happened so no concerns. Great product. Would recommend for any size dog if used in grass with the spikes...but on a deck...smaller or older dog recommendation! Arrived very quickly...worth every penny! May 9, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Has worked great! I purchased the pen to keep my new puppy in the kitchen. It arrived a few days later and ready to go. It has worked wonderfully. It is sturdy enough that she doesn't knock it down and high enough that I won't worry as she gets older that she will jump over it. May 19, 2016
