Orijen Dog Food

Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five Biologically Appropriate principals:

  • Rich and Varied in Fresh Whole Meats In nature, dogs benefit from a diversity of prey, so Orijen features meats, organs and cartilage from an assortment of cage-free poultry, free-range red meats and wild-caught fish.
  • Meat and Protein Rich Your dog is a carnivore, adapted for a diet rich in meat and protein. Orijen is loaded with 75-90% meat -- up to three times as much meat as conventional dog foods.
  • Carbohydrates Limited A dog's natural diet contains few, if any, carbohydrates. That's why Orijen replaces fast carbohydrates (such as potatoes and rice) with low-glycemic and regionally-sourced fruits and vegetables.
  • Fresh Fruits, Vegetables and Berries In place of cereal grains that spike blood sugars (such as rice and corn), Orijen features fresh orchard-grown fruits and vegetables that supply fiber and antioxidants in a natural form.
  • Botanicals Strengthen the Body and Spirit Providing an element of your dog's diet that he naturally craves, botanicals boost metabolism, strengthen organs and help cleanse the body of toxins.

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three Whole Prey elements in specific ratios.

Meat | 70-85%

High meat inclusions means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.

Edible Bone | 5-10%

5 to 10% bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin in a natural source, without any artificial additives.

Organ Meat | 10-15%

10 to 15% fresh liver and tripe are a richly nourishing source of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc and vitamins A, B and D.

Fresh, Whole Food Ingredients

  • Licorice Root Licorice Root Supplies soluble fiber, soothes and nourishes the digestive tract, cleanses the colon and reduces insulin levels.
  • Cranberries and Blueberries Cranberries and Blueberries Rich in antioxidants, supports immunity and urinary health.
  • Angelica Root and Fenugreek Angelica Root and Fenugreek Supports digestion and provides protective antioxidants that defend the kidney against chronic damage.
  • Butternut Squash Butternut Squash Loaded with healthy fiber and a natural source of vitamins including B6 for immune support.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic I purchased this product after quite a bit of research on the internet.I was very much impressed with it's excelent ingredient content and sourcing. The minimal processing and cooking methods combined with freshness and vaccum sealing are a large plus also. My dog loves it and eats every bit quickly.I serve it with Alaskan salmon oil and 1/4 pound of frsh meat, poultry and fish and a chewable vitamin. She eats every last bit and does not leave the Orijen adult food for later as she did with her previous dog food.I thought I was giving her an excelent dog food before but this is definetly a supeior product in every way.I intend to try Orijen's other recipes and rotate them for variety as I am convinced they will all be excelent.Funny thing my red masked conure enjoys nibbling on Orijen. No problem as they drink and eat from the same bowls simaltaniously with out any problem. Thank you Chewy and Orijen Vinny May 13, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Worth the money!! I finally found a dog food in which I can pronounce ALL the ingredients. That alone sold me on Orijen. The health benefits I heard about also drew me in. My Chihuahua had no problems transitioning to this food and she loves it. Unfortunately, she does still have skin issues so her vet recommended weaning her onto the 6 Fish formula and I just ordered a bag of it. So I'm hoping all goes well. Overall, I would definitely recommend Orijen. Chloe's coat is shiny and soft and she's been more energetic. She's even lost weight, which is a good thing since she was starting to get a little heavier than where she should be. For me, the cost was not a major issue because a 5.5lb bag of food will last me a while. And it's worth it in the long run to know that Chloe is eating the best food I could possibly give her, other than meal prepping. Chewy ships fast and has the best prices I have found yet, even over Amazon. May 13, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Just what the schnoodle ordered! We were surprised when out dog had his senior screening tests done that the results came back with very high triglycerides in his blood work. Our vet suggested we change his food immediately and gave us a few suggested brands. I did a fair amount of research and concluded that Orijen dog food was what we were going to try. His triglycerides were at 872 at his senior screening tests. The vet said it should be between 20 and (I think) 270. After 2.5 months of him eating this food, his triglycerides are now at 70! He is a very active dog and is otherwise in great shape. I only wish we had his blood work done sooner so that we could have had him healthier sooner. We also changed his treats. We did try the Orijen Duck treats. He LOVED those but I cannot afford $15 for 3.5 oz... we are going to still switching his treats but are going to settle on a different less expensive brand. When talking with other dog owners we enjoy discussing the ingredient list of the food he is eating now and we hope that more dog owners switch too. One more thing I was looking for other than the healthy great ingredients was that everything was done in the US. May 9, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works Wonders! I have a 1-year-old chihuahua/min pin who would take all day just to eat his breakfast. He adopted him on Purina. I have had him on Blue Buffalo, Zignature, and Taste of the Wild. He is interested in the food for a day and then you have to beg him to eat. I then recently adopted a 2-3 year-old chihuahua who was malnourished and came to me on Purina. This dog would not eat for me either. He would not touch Taste of the Wild. I even made a homemade food of boiled hamburger, boiled egg, rice, green beans. I have heard great things about Orijen, but was initially deterred by the price. I bought a 5 pound bag and both boys gobbled it up at their feeding. We have no been happy Orijen customers for the past month. My boys gladly lick their boys clean. Their coats are so shiny; I'm surprised you can't see your reflection on it :) LOVE ORIJEN!!! May 7, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by My dog goes crazy for this stuff I have a 2-year old 13 lb rescue (JRT/Poodle mix) and have dabbled in different brands since adopting her. It felt like a splurge to try Orijen but she was struggling with some itching in early fall that I wasn't sure was from her food or seasonal allergies. I am also very particular about my human family's food, we try to be organic and non-GMO as much as possible and I really wanted a high quality food for her as well. Anyway, it certainly passes the taste test. I've never seen her react this way to any other brand, she just inhales it and doesn't leave one morsel behind. She is healthy and happy and I see no reason to switch - she just passed her yearly vet check-up with flying colors. It's pricey but she's a small dog so I don't go through bags quickly but I think it would be worth it for a St. Bernard. My hope & ultimate goal is a foundation of high quality nutrition will keep her less likely to have cancer down the road, so many of my friends have lost their dogs to cancer lately. December 7, 2015
Rated 3 out of 5 by Kibble too large! I bought this for my little Miniature Schnauzer that we rescued, as we wanted to get her started with the best food, but unfortunately, she just couldn't eat it. The pieces were just way too hard and too big for her to bite. I know it is a great dog food, but I do not advise this for smaller dogs, as I had to break a few pieces for her to try. I was sorry that I had to call Chewy and return it, as I just wasn't going to break that whole bag of dog food into little pieces! Chewy was very understanding and I am so grateful to do business with such and awesome company! Thank you again, Chewy!! May 18, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by More well balanced than human food I searched for a long time for a GOOD food for my dogs and after much research tried Orijen.....well my dogs ate it so fast it was quite a site. They love this food and so do I. Thanks for giving us such a high quality food for our furry family members. It is a bit expensive but you get less vet visits when you give your dogs a quality food. They have fewer movements and eat less because the food is so high quality. Try this food you will not be disappointed May 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Origen - Recommended by Top Breeders and Dog Food Review Web Sites I searched through several dry dog food reviews that covered nearly every imaginable attribute of dog food. The food I was giving was not even considered worthy of reviewing (Royal Canine). Origen was THE top rated food with a huge number of noteworthy attributes. With this I started feeding Origen to my Standard Schnauzer and Standard Poodle and they have been happily eating this highly recommended food. Chewy's periodic automatic shipments are free of shipping charges and their cost is very reasonable for this top quality food. Our Giant Schnauzer breeder in California recommend Origen along with selected raw meats. The kennel is one of the premier breeders in the U.S. and this recommendation was proof that we were feeding the best dry food available. April 26, 2016
