Rated 5 out of 5 by 9274 EXCELLENT QUALITY KENNELS!
I own four of these kennels. I choose to always use them indoors. I consider this Sky Kennel to be very safe and very good quality that will last a long time if taken care of, as will your dog. I like to buy kennels that have extra room for my dog to move. I bought two X-Large for my two 50 lb. dogs because we had to move overseas and back and they worked great! I have had these same kennels for over 15 years and have used them indoors for when I have to go to the store. I purchased two more kennels for my adult 20lb. and 30 lb. dogs, the intermediate size, when they were puppies for when we went to bed and I could not watch them. Then when the dogs grew to adults, as they are now, I use the same kennels with the doors removed as a little house with a nice clean bed in the living room where one dog in particular likes to go sit and nap in his own quiet space. He comes and goes out of the kennel whenever he pleases. I use the kennels with the doors on when I go to the store so I know the dogs won't be playing without my supervision and no one will accidentally get hurt. Speaking of which I volunteer with a rescue and I hear sad stories of dogs choking themselves with other kennels because some how their collars get caught and in a panic the dogs twist their necks repeatedly until they choke to ... PLEASE REMOVE ANY DOG COLLARS WHEN USING AT HOME JUST TO BE SAFE NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF KENNEL YOU BUY!!! Although I consider this Sky kennel to be very safe and very good quality that will last if taken care of, as will your dog. I just remembered I also bought a very small one with a handle to take the puppy to and from the Vet while it was still getting it's puppy vaccines since a puppy should not be exposed to public areas where Parvo could be present until fully vaccinated. You can put the whole kennel on the scale and just subtract the weight of the kennel for the puppies true weight. Chewy.com has the best prices!

by RachelShea Amazing Price, Airline approved, Tricky lock
I bought the large size crate about 4 months ago for my 48 lb mixed breed shelter pup when he outgrew his last crate. I was looking for something for indoor use that would give him enough room to be comfortable, could be brought on an airplane if the need ever arose, fit in my car for travel, and keep him safe and contained. This crate was great! It did all of those things and more, but does have a tricky locking mechanism.
The large size worked perfect for us (his size and body type are very similar to a border collie). If your dog is around 45lbs or more, I definitely suggest getting the large size instead of the intermediate. That being said, this size does seem to allow for a little bit of growth, so it should work for some bigger/heavier dogs as well.
Assembly of the crate was easy; a well-written instruction pamphlet with pictures is included and easy to follow. As is typical of sturdy plastic crates, it comes in two halves- a top and a bottom. The halves are then connected by several metal bolts and plastic wingnuts, and when connected, lock the gate in place. Assembly shouldn’t take more than ten minutes.
I must say, this is the sturdiest crate I have ever seen! Although my current dog is not much of an escape artist, I do have experience with determined pooches that will do anything to get out. I have seen dogs wriggle and squeeze their way out of collapsible wire cages and paw and chew at locks to let themselves out. Not in THIS crate! Metal bolts ensure that the crate stays tight and sturdy, and the larger sizes (large, extra-large, and giant), have a tight safe-like locking mechanism that I assure you could never be opened by a dog.
This locking mechanism will be a savior to those looking for an escape-proof crate, but might be a minor annoyance to those that don’t need it. The lock takes a little bit of strength to turn, can be tough to line up just right, and takes two hands to unlock. After some use the gate will line up better and getting the pin to line up with the lock shouldn’t be an issue anymore. It may not be as simple as the typical squeeze-and-pull crate locks, but it is certainly sturdier and doesn’t take more than 3 seconds time to open and close. Personally, I could do without it, but it’s not enough of an annoyance to make me regret having the crate, or even to take a single star off its rating.
The large size does fit in my car for travel, but only just barely. I have a mid-sized family style sedan and usually slide the crate into the back bench seat where it takes up 2/3 the length of the bench. It did not fit, however, in my boyfriend’s car, a smaller four door sedan. The crate was too wide to fit in the door. This crate will travel best if you have a hatchback, SUV, or truck bed to put it in, or if you have a larger family car and don’t mind it taking up the majority of the back seat.
The crate comes with tons of bells and whistles and is likely the closest to airline-ready that you could find. It has a fully enclosed plastic casing, ventilation windows on all four walls, metal bolts, zip ties for extra support in the corners, “Live Animal” and “This Side Up” stickers, an airline label which can be filled out to include pet and owner information and care instructions, and attachable food and water dishes that clip on to the inside of the crate. All of these features are required by most airlines. The zip ties, stickers and labels come in a separate envelope and can be attached to the crate when needed.
The only thing keeping this crate from being 100% ready to go are the wing nuts, which airlines require to be metal. This is a super easy fix, though. Just grab one of the spare wing nuts included with the crate, bring it down to home depot or Lowes, and find a package of matching metal wingnuts. They shouldn’t cost more than around $5.
Overall, this crate was exactly what I needed! It is sturdy, safe, not too noisy, fits in my car, is super lightweight and easy to carry, airline approved, and virtually inescapable.
If you’re looking to get this crate, definitely go with Chewy.com. I couldn't believe they would ship such a large item for free, let alone get it here in TWO DAYS. But they totally did!! And on top of that the price is at least $20 cheaper than you will find anywhere else, and nearly $50 cheaper than similar style crates in the same size.
I definitely recommend it.

This may be more of a recommendation for Chewy than the product. I ordered the kennel at 1:00 pm and it arrived by 4:00 pm the next day, standard shipping! Awesome! However, the large was HUGE and barely fit in the back of our SUV. I ordered the large because our puppy, who is 30 lbs, will likely out grow the intermediate. But the kennel was too big for our car. I called Chewy and not only did they refund the price with no questions asked, they also asked that I donate the kennel to my local shelter rather than return it. The shelter where we adopted our puppy was so thankful for the brand new in box kennel. I ordered the next size down, intermediate, and it is set to arrive today (again, next day with standard free shipping). Can't say enough about Chewy's service.

This crate is awesome. Excellent construction - very well made, high quality. Our dog was able to chew through the wire crates and escape, and this crate keeps her safe and contained. You cannot find anything better for the price. Highly recommend!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cakewalk Great purchase!!!
I was a little wary of purchasing something like this for my Shepherd puppy. I want him to have only the best& some crates I had looked at in pet stores were expensive and flimsy. Not this one! It is perfect (although sometimes you must be DETERMINED where the latch is concerned - but, that's working out) It's an airy, well built quiet place for him at night. It came so quickly I couldn't believe it! We love it & may be purchasing one as a gift for our local shelter.
You'll be happy you bought this crate! Highly recommended by "Jesse- the Wonder Pup!"

This is actually the Sky Kennel Ultra. Great quality and very heavy duty. While the wing nuts are plastic COATED, they are steel within. No need to buy the additional steel bolt and nuts kits for airline approval. Chewy.com provided the best price I could find and very prompt shipping. Great customer service as well!
