by JohnBsp Royal Canin is the best" food for a German Shepherd Dog.
I started out with my first German Shepherd at age 14 years old and today I am now 63 and have owned (at one time) as many as 4 AKC German Shepherds at once. But mostly one. Every one I have loved feeding them the "Royal Canin German Shepherd formula" dog food. It is specifically designed for the German Shepherd digestive system. They love it and best yet, their digestive system loves it. Silky coat, healthy eyes and lots of energy, and best of all they only need to go out once or twice at the most for a bowel movement a day. It is solid, and greenish from vitamins I assume. Always solid. That's because they eat less of it and it gives the German Shepherd a perfect balance of nutriments to keep the dog in optimal physical shape. I give my female 5 cups a day but need to cut that down to four because she is not that active and is gaining weight. Maybe a little of the high side of prices but well worth it because you really don't have to feed them as much dog food. They have a puppy formula as well that you feed them up to 15 months then go to the Adult formula. Chewey charges you only about $42.00 for a 30lb bag but I can assure you, as you will see it is well worth it. Chewey might charge $42.00 but Pets Mart charges close to $70.00 for the same size bag. Free shipping too if you pick out a couple of healthy snacks such as Salmon & sweet potato treats and the dental sticks to keep their teeth white with healthy gums. At the total the UPS shipment to your door is free. Can't beat that price. I found Chewey and will not go anywhere else to buy my German Shepherd the best food on the market. Try Royal Canin and I promise within one bag you will see a signigicant change in loosing hair, and a smooth coat with a silky feel to it. Good healthy once a day bowel movement. So try it because you (I promise) will also turn you to the Royal Canin German Shepherd formula specifically designed for the digestive system of the GSD.

I've looked all over the internet for the best deals and I must say I truly feel this is the best deal. We receive our dog food promptly and every other Thursday. We signed up for the Automatic Shipment and I would highly suggest you sign up for it. We have 2 German Shepherds that LOVE this dog food and we NEVER have to go to the Pet Store ever again!! If we want a dog toy we can add it to the order under the shipment settings which is great!! We really are extremely happy with the service and the products!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by JeffS Very Poor Ingredients
We were turned onto this food by our veterinarian. Banfield. Which we also dropped. Full of chicken? Maybe chicken by-product... Read the ingredients listed on the bag and do a little homework. By-product is the leftover beaks feathers feet and other discarded "waste". This food contains zero nutritional value. Corn, when was the last time your body digested corn? Same thing goes for a dog, its nothing but a filler. For nearly the same I can get a locally made food rich in proteins, not by-products! I later found out that Royal Canin sponsors many veterinary clinics, thus is why it is recommended. Dont trust me though do your own homework and look it up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by DebDuck Nice product
My rescued German Shepherd was skin and bones when I adopted her. I gradually switched her over to this product made especially for her breed and she has flourished and filled out nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by avee8tor Excellent product.
I have 2 Shepherds that can not only be picky with their food, but one is also sensitive to some foods. I was recommended this by my vet as it is formulated for the Shepherd.
Both dogs took to it from the start even my picky one. Nice bite sized pieces which are not too hard yet not soft. I have found their overall condition has greatly improved from coat condition to energy. It is made from high quality ingredients with no fillers such as corn.
Do not let the price put you off, it may not be the cheapest food on the market which are packed with fillers etc., you are paying for a high quality product with many beneficial ingredients for a healthy and happy dog. I will not use anything else now.
Chewy's auto replenish is wonderful, fast and reliable right to my door and I never have to worry about being out of food.

We rescued a GSD from a breeder, yes a breeder who had all the dogs in kennels instead of running around on acreage as the website indicated. Our dog was super skinny (40 lbs.) and shedding like crazy. We started her on Royal Canin 2 years ago regardless of the webs disapproval of this food and she made an incredible come back. She is now her intended 75 lbs. and believe it or not doesn't shed very much. She seems to like the stuff and we have no plans of changing her to any of those designer brands. Thanks RC for a top notch GSD food.

Rated 5 out of 5 by MaxLife Great Quality with added benefits
We recently welcomed a new puppy into our home ( he's 8 months old now) and have tried 4 different foods. All were high end foods with excellent ingredients. Here's what we noticed with the Royal Canin brand. Max loves the taste of it. He has less body odor since starting it. His coat is healthier and shinier. His eyes are brighter and energy level is high. He has a dark green stool that is firm and he does not defecate as much, and his waste does not smell as much, he also does not shed much. We switched from Purina Pro Plan, which is also an excellent product but caused body odor. The proof really lies in the health of the animal, the quality of the ingredients will shine thru over time, and we have discovered that the Royal Canin brand is a superior product. Case in point, the breeder was feeding Max and the other pups as well as the parents Costco natural which on paper has a lot of quality ingredients. We continued to feed him this dog food and noticed low energy along with excessive bowel movements and soft stool. The ingredients failed to be of the higher quality and it showed. The high quality protein was not there even though the first ingredient was chicken and it was rated at close to 30 % protein. The Royal Canin has a higher quality protein and it is easily digestible, period. Royal Canin GSD has proven itself to be an excellent overall product and my hat is off to them for bringing a great product at a fair price to the market.
