Product Description

This Royal Canin formula is designed exclusively for pure breed German Shepherd puppies from 8 weeks to 15 months. The young German Shepherd tends to be more sensitive to digestive upset than other breeds, and also has alkaline skin just like an adult. Large puppies like German Shepherds grow quickly, and their active lifestyle can place stress on their joints that can have lifetime effects. That's why it's important to feed a diet that is tailor-made for their specific needs.

Customer Ratings & Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 47 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Makes them CHEW and it's easy on their stomach... I know that there are some who are not fans of this brand, especially with all of the "grain-free" diets that seem to be popular right now. I have had my working shepherd on "Solid Gold" and on "Taste OTW"... Both are better foods because the y have less grains and a higher protein content. A working/athletic dog like a GSD has a sensitive stomach because of the compressed area that all of the digestive organs are located in. An athlete doesn't eat STEAK or RIBS before a marathon or sporting event... They eat grains and Carbs (Pastas and breads).... that keeps athletic bodies running smother in high stress conditions! This food won't work for everybody (no food will), but if you have an athletic or working GSD as I do.... I would highly recommend this food or its Adult GSD counterpart. Your GSD's stools will be solid and he will not burn out (and loose focus) in mid-activity... December 29, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great for dogs with skin allergies We saw this baby girl GSD for sale in a newspaper ad and noted that she looked like she needed to be rescued. Sure enough she came with all sorts of health problems, skin allergies as in severe scratching and runny stools to name a few. So due to her many health problems she was not pleasant to look at. Still people were polite when they saw her – even the Veterinarian asked if we had shaved her (cause she was not pretty). After several vet visits and several brands of puppy we were very fortunate that one vet recommended Royal Canin. This changed our lives for the better. Her skin allergies stopped, her coat is now beautiful very soft and shiny. People cannot believe she is the same dog (Vet was very impressed with her new shiny soft coat). And yes the stools became normal and she has gorgeous white teeth. Royal Canin worked for us and we would recommend it based her transformation. November 3, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by My dog loves it I have a 14 month old Akita Shepard. I have tried him on other top rated foods and always had to mix wet food into it for him to eat it. He has very dry, itchy skin so I was looking for a food that was more suitable for the skin problems that seem to be an issue with GSD. I read other reviews and was hesitant but thought it was worth a try. He has been eating Royal Canin for about a month now. No more having to buy wet food to get him to eat. His skin and coat has improved, and he has finally started to fill out!! I would definitely recommend this food. December 25, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by mixed feelings My 7month gsd likes this food. I've been feeding him this food for 2 months now without any major problems. Soft fur, stools look healthy but the only thing is his weight gain. He's skinny to where his ribs show. I feed him 5cups a day along with some treats in between. Vet didn't find any health issues with him. After doing a lot of research, I think im going to change his food to a higher protein brand. A lot of gsd websites I've visited have the same opinion about this brand, it's not a good brand for gsd. I know, don't believe everything you read online. I'm going to go ahead and change his food and see if there is any significant change. Im hoping he can gain some weight. December 15, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Low quality for the money! I fed this to my GSD for eight years thinking it was a high quality kibble. I did not lnow any better until I educted myself on a dog's digestive system. This kibble 1st ingredient is chicken meal. Its cooked, processed meat bi-product, not real meat. There is very little protein source and the rest of the ingredients are poor quality. Read them and compare. One reviewer said dogs need carbs because they are like humans is inncorrect. Dogs are carnivores, they are omnivores. The reseach supports this for their entire history. I switched my gsd to Orijien food which has such a better makeup of ingredients. The difference in coat, skin and health is remarkable. You will not be doing the best for your gsd with this food. Its loaded with grains, preservatives and low quality and quantity protein. They should not be allowed to call it for royal canine (german shepherds). because its about one of the worst foods you could feed a GSD. February 17, 2014
