Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Calorie Control Dry Dog Food, 15.4-lb bag

Most pets have a small frame as compared to a human, and just a few extra pounds can have a dramatic effect on their life expectancy. Also, the extra weight can lead to other serious problems such as diabetes, heart disease, joint problems, skin irritations, and urinary tract disorders.

Simply feeding less of the current diet may not provide enough essential nutrients, and may lead to deficiencies. An effective calorie restrictive diet should be low in fat, nutrient-rich, palatable, calorie restricted, and should satisfy your pet’s appetite

Key Benefits

  • Calories are controlled to restrict energy intake and promote healthy weight loss
  • All essential nutrients are increased relative to energy to ensure nutrient requirements are met
  • Enhanced levels of glucosamine and chondroitin to help promote joint health
  • High protein content to ensure maintenance of lean body mass
  • Eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids are long chain omega-3 fatty acids that promote a healthy skin and coat

Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Calorie Control Dry Dog Food 4.3 5 3 3
great dog food ny buttercup loves it. This particular diet has, kept my yorkie weight under control she is not as active since she was diagnosed with hydrocephalus so this, food helps, to keep her weight down she is only 6 lb and have been the same weight since 2011. June 14, 2014
Does the job, but dogs don't seem to enjoy. We switched from Blue (450 kcal) to this (< 300 kcal) as our Poodle mix was 50% overweight at 17 lbs, even though we were feeding our dog much less than the recommended amount for a 12 lb dog and we NEVER feed him table scraps. In truth, our dog almost looked swollen, like possibly an allergic reaction. This product seems to be working as our dog is slowly losing weight, but we aren't sure if it is due to the lower calorie content or the fact he doesn't want to eat it. Like all dogs, he eventually eats it when he is hungry enough so we will stay on it until he gets to his target weight. But as soon as he is there, we'll likely get off it. We have also tried the "Weight Control" version of this brand which has a slightly higher kcal content, but they didn't seem to like that either. November 18, 2013
Good stuff for fat dogs Our dog hates this food but she will eat it if there is nothing else. It don't matter if it is this or any other brand of calorie control she can smell that it's low cal and hate it. She is loosing weight at a slow and stead rate which is what we needed. Don't hesitate with this one, good one for sure. November 11, 2013
