Product Description

As much as your dog loves food, certain foods can cause bad reactions, which can be harmful for your pet. Itchy skin and upset stomachs are sometimes triggered by commonly-used ingredients in many types of dog foods and if your dog is experiencing these issues, his or her veterinarian may prescribe Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Selected Protein Adult PV (Potato & Venison) Canned Dog Food (formerly Hypoallergenic Selected Protein). This prescription diet is made with delicious potato and lean venison – chosen specifically because these foods are rarely associated with allergic reactions. While your dog chows down on Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Selected Protein Adult PV Canned Dog Food, you will notice a significant change in the appearance of his or her skin and coat, due to added B vitamins and fatty acids, nutrients essential for conditioning the skin for protection against itching and inflammation. The insides of your furry friend will not be the only thing benefitting from this delicious food!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Only dog food I would give my 12 yr old rescue dog We adopted an older (11+ year?) LARGE standard poodle from a rescue organization. He was in a "kill" shelter and saved by some veterinary students. Right after we got him home he had a bout of Pancreatitis. A second round of Pancreatitis followed about a month later. (My guess is that the previous owners who abandoned him didn't want a sick dog or couldn't afford the treatment or special foods that he required.) The vet at the animal hospital found some liver and intestinal problems and removed his spleen because of a benign mass they found. Afterward they put him on this Royal Canin Hypoallergenic PV dog food. and I can't say for 100% certainty that it is just the food, but we haven't had any more problems. It's expensive but a LOT less expensive than the emergency trips to the animal hospital. Attached is a picture of him eating it this morning. Its the only food he gets, other than Hypoallergentic treats (Hills Prescription Diet Hypoallergenic) ), and after almost a year, he still likes it July 26, 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by Be aware of recent reformulation of this product I have used Royal Canin IVD and, as it was later renamed, hypoallergenic dry (and wet) foods for probably 10 yrs. They saved the life of my epileptic dog due to the lack of grains. I have used all four varieties: venison, rabbit, duck, and whitefish, although, after the "hypoallergenic" rebranding, the dogs that ate the duck and whitefish tended to have loose stool, so I've stuck with the venison and rabbit. A recent reformulation of the venison, rabbit, and duck (whitefish is presently unavailable) DRY foods has introduced hydrolyzed soy protein as a major ingredient. I doubt this affects most dogs. But so-called excitotoxins like glutamic and aspartic acids, in an epileptic dog, are bad news in high volumes, as they exist in HSP. I continue to use up the old rabbit, venision, and duck that I have on hand because they have no HSP. Not sure whether I'll feed him exclusively RC hypoallergenic wet venison, which does not have HSP, or mix wet venison, which is still the best among wet foods, with Orijen Regional Red, which I've been feeding my four other dogs and is a remarkably clean dog food. If this reformulation matters to you, you need to look into food alternatives for your buddy. April 16, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by OUTSTANDING! Fantastic product! Took care of the food issue my dog has. Took some time to find the right food. Great service from Chewy. On time delivery. Thanks! December 17, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love This Food!!!! My Lhasa Apso, Maggie, has been on this food since she was about 5 years old, and she is now 12. She has never had any issues, and loves it! My parents feed their dog a not so great food (Pedigree or something) and he's always trying to steal hers. She also had allergy problems with Iams dog food before I started her on this one, which caused her to start licking her paws. Now her skin and coat look great! I highly recommend this food for dogs with bad allergies... It has done wonders for her! April 4, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very good product my dog has severe IBS and this food is the only one that keeps him healthy. August 13, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Veterinarian prescribed We are trying to stabilize a 3 yr old dog with Protein Losing Enteropathy. I rate the product as good at this point as it has been less than a month that we have been feeding. The dog has stopped losing weight and seems to feel better. We hope that we are on the right track although it is very early in his treatment program. March 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Stopped licking My two Mini Schnauzers were licking their paws. Vet said it was an allergy, but wasn't sure if it was food related or something else. We started them on this food and within two weeks they had stopped licking their paws. February 14, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by This is a product that your dog will eat! I have a picky eater for dry dog food. This food my dog loves and is bowl is empty. He is on the venison and potato diet for the rest of his days. This is the only dry dog food with his diet needs that he will eat. July 15, 2012
