Product Description

Lower urinary tract disease (LUTD) refers to a group of disorders that commonly leads to irritation of the urinary tract and corresponding undesirable clinical signs.

What causes Lower Urinary Tract Disease? In dogs, bacterial infections of the urinary tract and the presence of stones (uroliths) in the urinary tract are the most common causes. This diet promotes a urinary environment unfavorable to the development of both struvite and calcium oxalate crystals.

Key Benefits

  • Recommended for dogs under 22 lbs at risk of developing lower urinary tract disease
  • Dissolution of pure struvite uroliths
  • Help prevent struvite, calcium oxalate and phosphate uroliths
  • Provides nutrition that aids in the management of pure struvite uroliths
  • Relative Super Saturation (RSS) methodology predicts the crystallization potential of urine; RSS is used to develop diets that lower the concentration of ions contributing to struvite and calcium oxalate urolithiasis
  • Contains nutrients to support healthy teeth
  • Increasing the urine volume simultaneously reduces the saturation of urine with calcium oxalate and struvite crystals

Customer Ratings & Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 36 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Delivery was prompt We received this product quite quickly despite having to wait for our veterinary to be contacted regarding approval of use by our pet. It is a new dog food for our toy poodle and she is not sure she likes it. Of course, she is a garbage this healthy stuff will take some getting used to! January 4, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by No more stones! My Shih Tzu has had 3 surgeries for urinary stones until we consulted with a specialist who recommended this food only. He loves it and I even bake his "cookies" from the wet food and sprinkle in the dry for "chips"! Better yet his 5 month check up revealed no stones forming and the ph balance was within the acceptable limits. Chewys is the most affordable and shipping is super quick. I highly recommend both to anyone struggling with this problem. Don't hesitate !! August 18, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is a blessing for my poodle, she loves it. My poodle had a urinary problem, she would go outside and I would watch her trying to urinate. She would try 5-9 times, this happened over night. I immediately called Vet. made appt. and was there within 1 hr. She tested her and she had blood and cyrstals in urine. My Vet gave me a perscription for Royal Canin SO, within 1 day my dog was urinating 1 time not trying 5-9 times. I highly recommend Royal Canin. My dog loves this food and she was a picky eater. Rated 5 out of 5 by Necessary Product - Great Source My little Scruffer had a serious bout with bladder stones before she came to live with us. Surgery resolved the problem, but left her homeless. After only one trial night I immediately welcomed her into her new home. Banfield Hospital, where she received her surgery and recovery made her available for adoption. So here she is. Enough of that. To prevent the recurrence of the bladder stones she must be on this special diet for the rest of her life. After 10 months she is still free of the stones, and is as healthy as can be. This is a quality kibble that not only provides the necessary balance of nutrients and supplements to prevent the stones, but she is thriving from a nutritional perspective. Scruff is a very happy, well fed, healthy and energetic partner. A real spark plug. Thank you Royal Canin for just the right product. has provided me with a suitable source to keep Scruff's feed in supply at the same cost that I have paid elsewhere, and delivered to my front door. Even with modest shipping charges, it is more cost effective and less stress for me than the 40 mile round trip in busy urban traffic to go to the only store Where it is readily available. To sum it up: this is the most cost effective and the most convenient way I have found to keep my faithful little companion supplied with the food that she needs. April 11, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I use as treats! My dog has chronic bladder stones and I use this dry food as her treats because we are attempting to keep all of her food intake in this prescription diet plan. February 28, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I use the dry food for treats She loves it --- I tell her it is chicken treats ... and she goes to town eating it. January 26, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Easier for a small old dog to eat. My dog is 16 years old. She has been eating Urinary SO (regular kibble) for years. She is now eating the small dog kibble and it is much easier for her old semi-toothless self to eat. She likes it better too. September 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by My Dog Loves This Food I gave this food five stars because my Yorkie loves it. He has to be on special food for the rest of his life due to kidney/bladder stones. This food is formulated to prevent these stones from forming and the reviews say it does. My only issue with it is that it has pork by-products in it and I am biblically Kosher. It's a bit of a nuisance trying to keep his dishes away from mine. February 12, 2015
