Wysong Epigen Grain-Free Venison Formula Dry Dog & Cat Food
Too many sugars!
This product was recommended to me by a customer service representative. Venison is easy to digest and normally given to dogs with some allergies. I love the idea of the protein being 60% and the fat is only 11% fiber at 3.5 makes it very desirable as well. The very first ingredient is Venison, But the second ingredient is potato protein the third is chicken fat. This is a decent food but not good if you are trying to combat bacterial yeast overgrowth, which is quite common after being on antibiotic therapy for a long time. The Apple, beet, plums & blueberries Are a nice idea, but in no way should be given to dogs if they seem to possess some type of yeast bacterial overgrowth. Having all the sugars in a dog food something allows the yeast to feed off and grow. None of my dogs could eat this food. Wysong is a very old company and I thought that This product was going to be good until I received it. For a limited ingredient diet it is ideal but surely not intended for most dogs because the majority of dogs cannot tolerate the beet pulp or plums as this simply feeds into the dogs immune system causing Whatever yeast in the body to grow more. Very sad and disheartened about this product. It would have been ideal if it was made without the apples and the beet pulp and the plums and the blueberries. Unfortunately being it contains all of the above I cannot use it and have about 15 bags of it which I have to donate. Not a good food as Wysong obviously was not thinking when they added these items to this food.

Nutritionally good product if your pet will eat it
Our cats ate Wysong's Epigen 90 for about a month before starting to turn their nose up at it, so I ordered this to be able to offer them another flavor. One thing I noticed was that the Epigen 90 seemed to have more aroma and moisture in it. This regular venison-flavored Epigen was as hard as a rock and the only way I could get one of my cats to eat it was by sprinkling freeze-dried raw food in powder form (a different brand) on it. Our other cat wouldn't touch it. We'll finish this current bag of food, but I won't be reordering it. I'd recommend it because it looks great ingredient-wise, but depends on if your cat/dog will eat it.

Great Idea Needs Work
Having a cat with allergies, I thought this product would be an amazing help to us since it provides one type of food that all of our cats and dogs could eat. However, after initially trying the food on day one, all animals refused to eat the food on days following. We eventually coerced 3 cats to eat it regularly, using the Wysing canned food to make it taste better, but their feces smelled so bad while eating this food that we could not continue to make them eat it. Four cats and one dog could not be coerced into eating this food.

My kitties did not walk away!
I have no doubt this is an excellent product, but my cats seem to have an aversion to "healthy" foods.
When I first put it down, they sniffed and nibbled, but since I still offered other foods, they also ate those. After a few weeks of offering it along with their other foods, I find I am refilling the bowls, so at least they are still interested and eating it.
If you want to feed healthy foods, it is worth a try. We all know how picky cats are so I'm not sure reviews can help that much with what YOUR pet will enjoy.
I likely would repurchase, but in small quantities.

Recommend with caution
I wanted to upgrade the dogs' food so I tried two small bags of Wysong's grain free food. I got the chicken and the venison. They both liked the venison best so I ordered it again. My Australian Shepherd started scratching severely so he no longer eats this but my other dog seems to tolerate it. I use it as a topper for her. I switched back to a more traditional food and the Aussie's problem disappeared. My advice is to buy the small bags for at least a month to determine if your dog has an allergic reaction.

Well they didn't go crazy over it, but a few cats actually ate it.
I got this for several of our older feline residents at the sanctuary. They didn't exactly go hog wild over it, but they did nibble at it. I do not know if it is worth ordering again and I may simply go back to grain free.

Another excellent Wysong product
For over 12 years we have been feeding Wysong foods to our dogs and cat. Our cat is 21 years old! We have done a lot of research and believe Wysong is the best and our buddies love it!
