Orijen Dog Food

Biologically Appropriate Commitment

Dogs and cats are built like their ancestors, that's why all of Orijen's recipes are based on five Biologically Appropriate principals:

  • Rich and Varied in Fresh Whole Meats In nature, dogs benefit from a diversity of prey, so Orijen features meats, organs and cartilage from an assortment of cage-free poultry, free-range red meats and wild-caught fish.
  • Meat and Protein Rich Your dog is a carnivore, adapted for a diet rich in meat and protein. Orijen is loaded with 75-90% meat -- up to three times as much meat as conventional dog foods.
  • Carbohydrates Limited A dog's natural diet contains few, if any, carbohydrates. That's why Orijen replaces fast carbohydrates (such as potatoes and rice) with low-glycemic and regionally-sourced fruits and vegetables.
  • Fresh Fruits, Vegetables and Berries In place of cereal grains that spike blood sugars (such as rice and corn), Orijen features fresh orchard-grown fruits and vegetables that supply fiber and antioxidants in a natural form.
  • Botanicals Strengthen the Body and Spirit Providing an element of your dog's diet that he naturally craves, botanicals boost metabolism, strengthen organs and help cleanse the body of toxins.

Whole Prey Foods

In the wild, dogs consume the whole animal to meet their full dietary needs, so Orijen recipes incorporate three Whole Prey elements in specific ratios.

Meat | 70-85%

High meat inclusions means all amino acids are provided in natural form, without any synthetic supplements.

Edible Bone | 5-10%

5 to 10% bone, marrow and cartilage provide calcium, phosphorus, glucosamine and chondroitin in a natural source, without any artificial additives.

Organ Meat | 10-15%

10 to 15% fresh liver and tripe are a richly nourishing source of vitamins and minerals, including iron, zinc and vitamins A, B and D.

Fresh, Whole Food Ingredients

  • Licorice Root Licorice Root Supplies soluble fiber, soothes and nourishes the digestive tract, cleanses the colon and reduces insulin levels.
  • Cranberries and Blueberries Cranberries and Blueberries Rich in antioxidants, supports immunity and urinary health.
  • Angelica Root and Fenugreek Angelica Root and Fenugreek Supports digestion and provides protective antioxidants that defend the kidney against chronic damage.
  • Butternut Squash Butternut Squash Loaded with healthy fiber and a natural source of vitamins including B6 for immune support.

Customer Ratings & Reviews

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 885 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lower cost than typical supermarket brands dry food Switched from other premium to Orijen due to better reviews by acredited institutions and my own research. We're just about half way through first bag so I can't really say much other than Skip seems to like it better than the old brand and her coat seem silkier. One thing I do want to say at this early point is that, in my opinion, many people don't realize that premium dry dog food is more cost effective than the typical supermarket variety. For example: Purina One costs in the average about $1.44/lb while Orijen is about $2.27/lb but.... since you have to feed twice as much of the Purina, Orijen ends up costing significantly less - check it out and do the math. Rated 5 out of 5 by Orijen makes for good stool Started feeding this to my Dobie and Plott Hound, along with a scoop of very good quality canned food, and they eat it right up. After 30 pounds of Orijen, nobody is vomitting and their stool is of perfect texture and not at all smelly. Nice brown tone too. Also, no flatulence (except when we have company for dinner). Rated 5 out of 5 by Orijen is our answer. I switched my dog Gracie to Orijen and she loves it! I rescued her in January after being abandoned and left to wander the streets. She was skin and bones and matted mess covered with tics to the point of needing to be shaved. I really wanted to try to give her the best possible chance at a new healthy start. I believe Orijen is the food to do that! April 1, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product After the food I was feeding my dogs was recalled, I went searching for a dog food I felt comfortable feeding them. I love this product. It is a bit expensive, but I love the ingredient list and my dogs love it. Their coats are great, they don't chew as much on their paws and I have noticed that one of mine that gets ear infections a lot is not getting them like she used to. May 20, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Impressive results and thankful for the cost savings through Mr. Chewy We fed our Weims only Wellness Core no-grain dry kibble and had been pleased with the product until late last year. We noticed our dogs were having intermittent problems - vomitting, diahrrea, loose stools - nothing serious, but inexplicable. When our female began scratching her ears, we treated for ear infections. Both dogs' coats became dull and flaky. Then we learned there had been a change in the Wellness recipe and wondered if their problems were related to the change. So we switched to Orijen and within one bag's feeding the difference was amazing. All of their symptoms resolved. By bag two, their coats were unbelievable - soft and shiny. They absolutely love the taste of the Orijen. It's worth every penny. March 2, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by great dog food I have two small dogs with highly sensitive stomachs. They would vomit at least once or twice a week. I was looking for a completely grain and gluten free food for them. I read the reviews on this food and gave it a try. They both took a few days to get used to it but I added about 2 tbs of raw beaten egg and they ate it up in no time. Now they are eating it dry and are eating less and their stools are firm again. They tend to be overeaters so this is good. I love the fact that I have the option to auto ship so now I will have their food on hand all the time. June 2, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by My senior dogs are flourishing I have a lab mix and a hound mix, each about 13 yrs. old. Incontinence issues cleared up when I switched them to Orijen. Food is so good, I buy it for my cats too! October 15, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Orijen Adult Dry - Awesome!! I had been feeding my dogs Exclusive for the past 2 years. It's not the greatest but by far the worst. I decided to try new better brands (grain free). I bought TOTW and my dogs loved it. I thought...alright. My boy is a somewhat picky eater and I have one with chicken allergies. Noone had an issue. I also decided a week later to try the Orijen Adult. As soon as I brought the bag in the kennel they were all over this bag. I fed them and they all ate like they hadn't been fed. I thought Wow! THe next day I was preparing their food and none of them were around me. I was puzzled. I turned around and they were all in their kennels waiting for me to bring them their food. Double Wow! Even my picky boy. Triple Wow! It is a bit expensive, but I am feeding them a little less than with the original brand. I will update my review after I have had them on it for a while. March 24, 2012
