Feeding Instructions

Transition Instructions

If you are already feeding ACANA and you’re introducing new ACANA Heritage, mix the 2 foods about 50-50 for a day or 2 for easy transition. However, if your dog has a history of digestive sensitivities we recommend that you do a transition over 2 - 3 days.

If you have been feeding another brand of food, we recommend that you provide a transition period for your dog. Introduce ACANA Heritage slowly; start out with 25% of the new food and 75% of the old. Over a period of 7 days, gradually increase the amount of new food until you are feeding 100% ACANA Heritage food.

We need a high quality food for our 5 year old lab because of health issues. Acana brand was recommend to us. The ingredients seemed to have everything we needed and nothing we didn't. The only problem we found was the price and availability. We are over the road truck drivers and finding pet shops that carry his food was not easy. Both problems were solved with Chewy.com. we saved over $30 on the food we always get him and it was delivered to our house. No more frantically trying to find it when he gets low. We didn't need to change his food either. We just order about 5 days before we know we will be home and he has his food for the month.

I have a four month old Akita, Wolf Stark, 65 lbs. and on a raw meat diet. He gets Acana mixed in with my "specially made for pets" Roasted Chicken with carrots, peas, sweet potatoes so he gets Acana with warm food 3x a week just to add more vitamins/supplements to his diet. I'm very big with what I feed my pets so I read all those tiny prints on the back of the bag and carefully reading each and every ingredient out there. I can say that, Acana has great ingredients and awesome nutrition for your dog. I believe they are a sister company of Orijen. Acana has a very well balanced ingredients and my dog loves it. It comes in medium sized round tabs, it's about the size of a penny I'd I have a four month old Akita, Wolf Stark, 65 lbs. and on a raw meat diet. • Great for picky eaters

    By on

I have a german shepherd/husky mix who is probably the pickiest dog ever. He never eats his food past a few days and than he will just avoid it, I even went to the extent of putting him on a raw food diet which after a short period of time he also refused to eat, Since I have switched him to this food, he races over to it at every meal and devours if. Highly reccomend!

  • ACANA Large breed

    By on

Just started feeding this to my 2 dogs, one is a ST Bernard German Shepherd cross and the other is a Leonberger, they both love it. Biggest change so far is stools, my Leonberger is a 7 month puppy and has had issues with VERY soft stool to diarrhea, her stools have been solid. Both dogs appear to be doing wonderful. They require a smaller portion of food which is also nice. It is to early to determine how they will do over time but so far very good

  • My dog finally has a dog food he will eat

Acana Heritage dog food is amazing. My dog loves it! You've got to read the ingredients and the way the food is made. The quality is very high and I feel good giving it to my dog. I have a shipment sent to me every 2 months and if I run short before then I just edit my account and I have a fresh bag in two days. The free shipping on my 25 lb bag is a plus. I've shopped around for prices and chewy has the best price by far that I have found

both my overweight pitbull and my small diabetic pug love it. since i started using acana my pit has been loosing weight and my pug has the glucose more controlled and all skin allergies are gone. I just wish they had smaller pebbles because this ones are a little hard to chew for my 12 lb pug.

  • Great Product!

I have had a problem with yeast over-load in my dogs for years, resulting in itchy ears, ear infections, itchy paws and skin, etc. Finally I have found a quality dog food that seems to respond to this problem. I am also VERY happy that Chewy is carrying this brand! P.S. This food also produces firm stools which has been absent from many many other foods I've tried.

  • First dry food that engenders any interest at all

    By on

I know wet food is a better choice, but with two extremely picky dogs, I can't justify any longer spending mega-bucks on wet food which is often thrown away after two or three offerings to upturned noses. Did some research and this food ranked very highly; it's only been a week or so, and I can't say they are enthusiastic, really, but if they don't eat it goes back in the bag instead of down the disposal. Eventually, they eat. I've tried a couple of other brands of dry food and they won't touch it, so in comparison, this is a hit.

  • My Aussie and I like this food

    By on

I have fed my 6 yo Aussie a raw diet since I brought her home at 8 weeks, but I also like to keep a commercial food on hand to use "in a pinch", if I forget to thaw out the meat and bones, etc. I also try to find a kibble that is grain and potato free and that doesn't have a lot of vegetable etc. and Acana is a good choice, because I like that it contains some organ meats and tripe, and is still fairly reasonably priced.
