1) Place whistle in mouth with the curved open edge facing outwards.
2) Hold in the mouth in such a way as to create a gap underneath the whistle. The back of the whistle will sit on the back of the tongue.
3) Blow gently and by varying the blow, you will create different sounds.
4) To create an even wider range of sounds, move the tongue up and down reducing the widening the gap underneath the whistle.
Note: If you place your tongue against the lower hole you will silence the whistle. It doesn't matter which way up the whistle is placed. This is just one of nineteen outdoor whistles & calls in the world famous Acme range.
This whistle does require a few practice blows before you get a sound.

Find a better whistle
By Rachel on Dec 8, 2020
I've used shepherd's whistles regularly for many years trying out different sizes, shapes, materials, etc., decided to try this one because it was cheap. This is probably the worst whistle I've encountered. If you want to use a shepherd's whistle, there are far better brands to choose from, even if you're just learning. Invest in a better quality whistle.

Learning curve, but great product.
By ArthursMom on Oct 30, 2020
I have never had any other shepherds whistles, but this looks like a quality product. Yes, there is a small learning curve, but when you get it. You get it. I watched a couple YouTube videos, then I had it in my mouth practicing for about an hour until I got it. I thought I had it for about 40 minutes, but then when I was trying to reposition and get a different tone found out it was not quite in the right position. As soon as it was, I could tell a huge difference and after a few more minutes of practicing in the right position was getting pretty consistent tones and was able to control tones abd volume enough to teach my dog to go into a "Down". It is pretty small, so make sure you put it somewhere I have never had any other shepherds whistles, but this looks like a quality product. Yes, there is a small learning curve, but when you get it. shepherd dog whistle
By BuddyandAliceMom32 on Oct 10, 2020
#1. It didn't have any instruction as to how to use it. #2. I know the dogs hear it and I can't but they never payed any attention to it, just turned their heads and looked at me like I was silly.

Hard to learn
By Shepherd on Jul 18, 2020
This is a great product with a wide range of tones that you can make. However, there is a very steep learning curve when first using this product!

Takes time to learn...
By Roper on Aug 19, 2020
Very difficult to get to make the right sound. Will keep practicing, but cautiously optimistic...

Can't figure out
By Vicky on Apr 30, 2020
This seems like a well made whistle, but I cannot get it to work for the life of me. I've read the instructions and tried and tried but it just doesn't work. Not a sound. I was really looking forward to this whistle because I need one for recall but going to try another.

DOE'S NOT WORK ! ! !
By John on Dec 28, 2019
After watching the video and seen my dogs reaction to the whistle they heard turning their heads left and right, I thought this would be a great whistle! Wrong! This whistle sucks! First of all it leaves a nasty taste of metal in your mouth!? And second no matter what I did I could not get this to work! Just buy a cheap one that actually works! Chewy gave me a well deserved refund.

Not your normal whistle
By Loveschewy on May 22, 2019
This whistle can take a little practice but even the littlest of sounds will make your dog halt. It works!! It’s really a neat little thing to use.
