What is holistic pet food?

Holistic pet foods use only the highest quality ingredients in combination with health - enhancing vitamins and supplements. They contain no harmful preservatives, chemicals or fillers that are commonly used in most commercial pet food, and which have been implicated in the worrying increase of pet cancers in recent years. In fact, holistic pet foods have been found to aid in the prevention of pet diseases, particularly skin allergies and digestive problems, and help to enhance the natural lifespan of your pet.Having laid out the benefits of holistic pet food, it is important to note that there is more to the concept of ‘holistic’ than just a natural diet. Your pets’ nutrition should be seen as a component of a holistic lifestyle, which entails embracing a state of complete physical, mental and social well - being. Pets thrive in a clean, nurturing environment, and coupled with good food and veterinary care, will lead a high quality of life.

What does novel protein mean?

Novel protein sources of Brushtail, Kangaroo, Venison, Eel and King Salmon are used as the meat sources compared to common cuts of chicken, beef and lamb, which pets are commonly allergic to. All other ingredients have also been specially selected due to their low - allergenic properties. Since 2003, Addiction has pioneered the development and formulation of hypoallergenic pet foods, and has now the widest range of protein sources in the market, ensuring nutrition.

    Happy with this

    By on

We usually use The Honest Kitchen, so we're used to thick pasty consistancy. This is more of a hot cereal consistancy, almost gritty. My boys don't seem to care. I'm going to continue to use this for a change in protein and to help with allergies.

    Mostly crumbs

    By on

I was surprised when I opened the box as the prodect I received was similar to hot ceral in consistancy. It looked like cream of wheat with small bits of what I guessed to be venison. I gave it 2 stars as I mixed it with Stella and Chewy burgers to create a complete meal and my pup liked it that way. I would not rely on this as the only meal thus the rating. She also wouldn't eat it by itself as there was not enough meat to the product. I will not be reordering.

    A winner!.....

    By on

For some reason my Portuguese Water Dog does not tolerate most raw food. Even dehydrated. Yet she loves Addiction and has no problems with it. I feed it to her once a day with the other feeding kibble.

Addiction grain free fig'licious venison dog food

    By on

I'm not sure how to rate this product because out of our 3 dogs only 2 will eat it . I didn't realize that the consistency would be like sawdust and turns into an oatmeal like paste with water added. I was expecting something more chunky like dehydrated venison that wasn't so powdery

    Doesn't Reconstitute Well

    By on

I previously used Honest Kitchen to rehydrate and top dress my three boys dinners. I decided to try Addiction. Doesn't reconstitute and "plump up" like Honest Kitchen does. Smells nice, the dogs aren't as crazy about it as the HK. Won't be purchasing again.

Awesome food, but what’s with the white potatoes?

    By on

I have a team of five German shorthaired pointers, all of which are picky eaters. This food is absolutely awesome. They all seem to love it, I can see the chunks of real meat in every single bowl and the nutrition is real. My one complaint is that the entire line seems to have an awful lot of white potatoes in it. I have one dog with IBS and it’s not good for him. I wish they would produce something without the white potatoes... sweet potatoes perhaps?

    Not very appealling

    By on

I have two rescues. One of them is a picky eater; the other will eat anything. Neither of them would go near this stuff and I don't blame them. I have tried other dehydrated foods that need to be reconstituted and they all have had pieces of meat that actually resembled meat. Not this. It was completely pulverized. So, I can't fault my dogs for staying away. Who wants to eat wet dust/pulp?

    Food is a big disappointment

    By on

I had to review this because I am SO disappointed after paying $80+ for this food for my dogs thinking they would love it and they won’t touch it. So bummed:(
