Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Advantage Topical Solution and Advantage II?

We have added an insect growth regulator, pyriproxyfen, to Advantage.

What is an insect growth regulator (IGR)?

An IGR, such as pyriproxyfen, inhibits the development of flea eggs. It also offers additional larvicidal properties when compared with imidacloprid alone.

How does pyriproxyfen work?

Pyriproxyfen mimics the juvenile growth hormone of fleas. This hormone prevents immature flea stages from molting into the next stage of the life cycle and keeps them from developing into adult fleas.

Why is it important to use a product with an IGR?

With an IGR as part of your flea control, the flea life cycle is disrupted at multiple stages through different active ingredients and modes of action. This is often referred to as integrated flea control (IFC). The addition of an IGR to Advantage II provides ovicidal, as well as additional larvicidal properties to target flea infestations and kill all flea life stages.

Is Advantage II waterproof?

Yes, there is no need to reapply the product after weekly swimming or a bath. For best results, use a non-detergent shampoo.

  • Not for Florida fleas

    By on

Purchased and applied to 2 cats. Noticed absolutely no sign of change. Both cats still covered in fleas. Upon talking to my veterinarian, she let me know that fleas in Florida (where we live) as well as other areas have grown resistant to advantage and frontline. I wish I had known this prior to spending the money on a product that did not work. Do your research first, as this product may not work for your area of the world. We have since gotten Bravecto from our vet, and are cautiously optimistic about the results.

  • Best Topical for 2017

    By on

Don't get too excited....It's the only one that kind of worked this year. The competitors need to revise their current solutions. As a rescuer and foster, I have a lot of cats. Over the past few years it's harder and harder to control fleas. Nothing seems to work. That said, Advantage worked the best out of non prescription formulations. it did have to be reapplied before the month was over. Is there such a thing as a super flea?

  • Don’t buy these

    By on

I bought these drops for both pets - cat and dogs. I even set up auto ship. Both animals had fleas again the next day. As in: these drops worked for one day. I even applied the rest of the drops after 3 weeks instead of 4, same results. Maybe it’s the main ingredient, I’m not sure. But I do know that I’ll be using something different next time.

  • Good for cats with flea dermatitis.

    By on

This is the formula that kills fleas without them having to actually bite the cat. It has really made a difference for my three cats that get the dermatitis - it killed the fleas effectively and their skin was clear within a few weeks. For those without this issue, I use a less expensive treatment. One cat had an allergic reaction to the treatment itself, so she will not get this one again.

  • Outstanding customer service

    By on

Product arrived in two days from order date. Unfortunately the medicine box had opened and was missing a vial. I contacted customer service. The friendly and helpful rep said no need to return the opened package and stated I could keep it or donate to my local humane society. I will certainty donate the product. The rep also said a replacement would be shipped to me today. The concern your company has for our furry friends is much appreciated. And your customer service is among the best service I have ever received. I will continue to buy my pet products from you. Thank you.

I have purchased from Dr. Foster and Pet meds for many years and you beat their price and having 8 cats and four dogs every penny saved helps. You keep your prices lower and I will continue to buy these items from you. Not on auto because I spend a lot of money for these items but would prefer to order as I need, my animals are getting older and I do not know how long they will be around

  • Ciao fleas!

    By on

I'm so glad I've found this product, my poor kitty got fleas I don't know how, she's never outside and she's the only pet in the house. I treated her for two month with Frontline and it didn't work, I was surprise because I used it many years ago with my dog and it worked instantly, not this time, I was very disappointed and desperate! I read the reviews about advantage II and decided to give it try, it worked within hours! I was amazed, I saw the fleas falling down already dead or almost dead when she was laying down on her favorite spot. No more scratching or jumping visitors. I recommend this product, it really worked..at least for my cat. Good luck!

  • Not for tick repellent

    By on

Chewy is great - love the service. I won't buy this product again - while it may work for fleas - not a problem we experience - it Definitely doesn't work for ticks. I live in the country, in an area that has many deer and deer ticks abound - my cats ALL (5) still come in with ticks and need to be physically checked and cleared. Very disappointed.

  • the only thing what worked

    By on

I bought several different brands of liquid flea treatment including a shampoo and flea collars It is now going on 4 months of fleas. The advantage flea treatment worked the best but I did put it on a second time after 2 wks as directed. They are still scratching but I am not finding any live fleas on my furniture anymore. Don't bother with shampoos and collars-waste of money. Stick to advantage.

  • Great Product!

    By on

My family and I live in a townhome and when the next door neighbors moved in, we started having issues with fleas on my cat and in our home. We tried everything from Dawn baths to Diatomaceous Earth, but nothing seemed to work. Her vet had her on Revolution but since it prevents more than just fleas, it didn't seem to be adequately concentrating on the flea problem. This product was my last resort. My home, as well as my cat, are now flea free. I strongly recommend Advantage II for your cats, dogs, or ferrets.
