If your cat, dog or horse is diagnosed with asthma, emphysema or another breathing condition, your vet may prescribe Albuterol 0.083% Inhalation Solution 2.5 mg/3 ml to help. This inhalation solution is a bronchodilator that can help your pet to breathe better so that he’s able to take in more oxygen.
UsesAlbuterol is used principally in cats and horses for its effects on bronchial smooth muscle to alleviate bronchospasm or cough. True bronchoconstriction is rare in dogs, but when present, albuterol may be useful
Possible Side EffectsMost adverse effects are dose-related and those that would be expected with sympathomimetic agents including increased heart rate, tremors, CNS excitement (nervousness), and dizziness. These effects are generally transient and mild and usually do not require discontinuation of therapy. Decreased serum potassium values may be noted; rarely is potassium supplementation required.
Drug & Food InteractionsThe following drug interactions with Albuterol have been reported: Beta-Adrenergic Blocking Agents, Digoxin, Diuretics, Inhaled Anesthetics, Other Sympathomimetic Amines and Tricuclic Antidepressants

What should I do if my cat does not like the face-mask used with Albuterol?
When using inhaled albuterol with an appropriate spacer/face-mask in cats, the following tips have been recommended: Allow cat to get used to and investigate the device over several days. Reward fearless approaches to device and start placing it near cat's face. Practice with the mask over the cats face without anything in the chamber. Pre-load the chamber with a puff of albuterol. Make sure the mask is placed snugly over the muzzle for 4 to 6 breaths.
