Very accurate testing
By Mother on Oct 26, 2020
Saliva collection took over 20 minutes. I was so relieved that the slight blood collected when my dog jerked and jabbed the collector in his mouth did not hinder the results. My very senior dog had vomit or loose stools in the past that made me suspect some of the ingredients like yogurt, green peas, salmon. I worried he was sensitive also to all fish. This test informed me to no reaction to sardines, but sensitive to flaxseed oil. Yes it takes forever to find a dog food without turkey, peas and flaxseed, beef, corn, salmon, cod etc. I understand some people consider the results laughable if they had never seen any reactions to the items listed. But maybe the list of mild intolerance Saliva collection took over 20 minutes. But maybe the list of mild intolerance may mean your dog can tolerate unless they get an auto immune problem like my dog has. Or their food has a small amount. I consider this such a reasonable priced test. I would do this for any dog as they become seniors and they have more intolerance items. … more

I honestly don’t know how to rate this product

My dog has had uncontrollably itchy skin since July 2020. She was (and still is) destroying her paws and has had to wear cones for the past going on 6 months. All my vet wanted to do was put her on Cytopoint or some other allergy medication- not something I wanted to do. I tried all kinds of different things. Allergy chews, food additives for allergy support, creams, sprays, balms, etc. nothing worked. Finally I started looking into allergy tests. I picked this one because it was one of the more affordable options and reviews seemed mostly favorable. As others have said, it’s super difficult to get the sample from a smaller dog. I basically had to hold mine in a wrestling hold to keep her from scrambling around. It was exhausting. When I got my results about two weeks later (just kept checking the website every day, no email letting you know your results are ready), it said she had a strong reaction to pork, corn and flaxseed. I never gave her pork or corn, but flax is in everything. It’s been difficult to find products that don’t contain it. The test said she had a mild reaction to a ton of stuff! I was shocked. This then lead me into a panic, in which I beat myself up for giving her things that she is supposedly reactive to. I blamed myself for all the discomfort she was in. I went to my local pet food store, which carries all the popular healthy choices that people have been going to instead of, say, Purina or Iams. Fresh food, raw food, kibble and canned, I could not find anything that didn’t contain at least one thing on the huge list of foods that my dog reacted to. I wanted to take the results with a grain of salt. There was no way giving her something off the “mild reaction” list was going to greatly exacerbate things, right? But I had been feeding her only salmon or other fish products, and she was reacting to that. And I did want to pay attention to the things she had a “strong reaction” to. I just wanted to rule things out. But that meant I would need to make her food at home. So cut to me frantically trying to figure out how to make food for my dog that would be balanced and not malnourish her. It’s been a long process. I’ve read and learned more information than I ever thought I’d need to as a pet owner. Sometimes I think I’m going crazy. I know it can take up to 8 weeks to see positive results from switching a dogs diet, but we started all of this in the beginning of November and it’s now January of 2021, and my girl is still itching. Still wearing cones. And I’m still searching for answers. I’ve since been learning about leaky gut, which presents itself with allergy symptoms and digestive upset. Look into that if you’re in the same boat as us. We’re still doing home cooked meals and leaving out stuff she reacted to in this test, but it’s hard when it says the only meat she can have is Bison, one of the most expensive and harder to find proteins. I found a lot of puzzling items in her results and I might contact the company. How is it she reacted to chicken, but it says chicken eggs are ok? Or that she reacted to beef, yet dairy is fine? She can’t have white rice, but brown rice is safe? No cod, but cod oil is ok? See? Results can be confusing and it’s enough to drive you crazy. Anyway, I almost feel as though this test has raised more questions than has answered, but I guess if you’re curious and can afford to spend almost $100 on something that isn’t totally for sure, give it a try. Maybe your results will be more clear, and maybe it’ll help your dog. For us, we’re still in the cone zone and itchy as heck and spending more money on hopeful solutions. I’m trying four leaf rover now and will begin chlorhexidine shampoo as soon as it arrives. … more

If it works it will save so much money in dog food trials
By Dogmom on Sep 22, 2020
ordered the test for our boy. He mostly chews his feet constantly. I’ve tried many different foods and homemade. I came to the conclusion this test would be cheaper than all the things I’m trying and limited ingredient food is not cheap. I found the test half price on chewy and snatched it up. We received and administered the test. I’m starting with five stars and will update when we get results. I figured out myself that the customer ID is the number printed on a sticker on the box. After you complete the information you Are taken to a screen that has items for sale. At first i thought it was an additional cost needed to perform the test but they are just ads. Don’t expect email confirmation or any type of confirmation screen. Collection- I’m surprised more reviews don’t explain this is not easy. Especially if you have a difficult dog. It did take way more than the two minutes stated but we finally got the dot to turn red. We used a cracker for him to smell and get his saliva running. Our dog is medium sized. I can’t imagine trying to collect from a small dog! Just keeping it honest it may take awhile but it will eventually turn red. I think you can get a small dog test kit from their website. I’ll update when we get results UPDATE We got results this week ( took almost four weeks because Of mail delays) and he is allergic to several things including rabbit cod coconut and rice. Cod, rice and coconut were in current dog foods and treats so we eliminated those and are waiting to see if his paw chewing gets better. I did contact the company twice with questions and got a response in less than 24 hours. It’s definitely legit time will tell about the results and if our dog improves. … more

Inaccurate Reaults
By Whey on Oct 11, 2020
First, trying to get a sample on a small dog is nearly impossible when they barely produce saliva. Second, the results were 95% wrong. My bet recommended doing a blood panel. Allergy Test My Pet says my dog is allergic to chicken, when in fact that is not the case. Nor did it list other allergens. Would not recommend.

Impossible
By POMom on Oct 5, 2020
I would not recommend for small dogs. I had to do my test twice because it was always contaminated. Getting a little dog to put a bunch of saliva on a cotton swab is impossible; at least it was for me. Not worth the money. DO not buy!

Pretty basic, but it got the job done. Had a pretty extensive list of common allergens. And it gave me the info I needed

Scam. Don’t waste your money
By Anna on Aug 16, 2020
As said in another review; this only works if your dog is very slobbery. I wasted the only tube given trying to squeeze some saliva in. So I tried emailing the company to request for a new tube, only to be met with a reply back saying the email doesn’t exist. Great. And I got it off the website too. Don’t waste your money, just get a better quality test.

Not accurate- waste of money
By Adam on Sep 10, 2020
Don’t waste your money! Do your research about these types of tests before purchasing- I wish I had. Results were so inaccurate they were laughable.

Itchiness has all but gone away!
By Jenn on Jun 19, 2020
My puppy is a rescue and when he came home we noticed that he wouldn't stop itching himself regardless of what shampoo we used (dawn, oatmeal, etc). We had him on nexguard for flea and tick prevention and kept a close eye just in case. The vet prescribed him a steroid for the itching, but it made him thirsty and he had several accidents. When then tried giving him children's benedryl, but he became sleepy and loopy as a result. We originally ordered this test kit thinking he might have seasonal allergies. When I created my account, there was some confusion on the ID and how it worked but their customer support team was really helpful. Its now been a little over a week since we've received this result, we've changed up his treats and puppy food and I'm happy to report that there is a very noticeable difference in his itchiness. I've been telling friends, coworkers, basically anyone who'll listen of how happy I am with this test. TL;DR: Got the test, found out what he shouldn't be eating, changed his diet, and the itchiness has all but gone away. … more

A long story
By caitlyn on Aug 19, 2020
I'm writing this review on behalf of my 9 year old Chihuahua named Sugar. There's a few things you should know before I get into the product. Sugar has always been very picky about what she eats. In her younger years she refused everything we tried to feed her except for Cesar. Even then for a very long time she would pick around the brown pieces and only eat the red pieces. For many many years Sugar has been on a diet of Cesar dry food and Cesar wet food. However she developed allergies a few years ago. Her fur started falling out and he skin was becoming inflamed and she would scratch herself until she opened a wound. The vet put her on an immune system depressor. The vet put her on an immune system depressor. It fixed the severe issues but Sugar still scratched and her fur hadn't had a shine to it in so long I stopped noticing it was gone. Her fur felt like straw and was never very smooth. This year I finally decided to take a chance and see if I could find out what exactly was causing these issues for her. I got this test when it was on sale so I payed more like $60-$70 for it. There's a few things I'd like to point out. 1.) This test was NOT made for small dogs with even remotely dry mouths. Do not expect the saliva collection process to be simple if you plan to use it on a small dog. It is going to take time. You are going to get frustrated. But it will eventually happen. That dot will turn red. 2.) The syringe is difficult to squeeze if you have to really try and get every drop out. For a large slobbery dog you won't have a problem cause you'll have plenty of saliva. For a small dog who hates cotton in her mouth every drop you can get out counts. 3.) Registering the test online is simple IF you realize that the number on the tube you send off and on your envelope is your customer ID. you'll need that to register it. 4.) I did not get my results in 2 weeks. Which was disappointing but with the virus and the sale and the everything I didn't hold that against anybody. Now on to the results. They come in categories. Highly reactive, mildly reactive, and no reaction. Sugars came back as highly reactive to corn, halibut, and pork. She was also mildly allergic to ants, beef, brown rice, white rice, rice bran, buckwheat, turkey, corn syrup, Brewer's rice, buffalo/bison, and mold. The Cesar food we had been feeding her where either chicken, beef or pork flavored. And all had corn. We live in a small town so grain free dog food is hard to find close by. Luckily we found beneful grain free in our favorite dollar store. We switched her food immediately. We are currently in search of the perfect dry dog food as the Beneful still contains some beef and pork. We have switched from Cesar wet food to freshpet. After JUST A WEEK off the Cesar food Sugars fur has come such a long way. She's soft and silky smooth again and she seems much happier at meal time as well. I'm no expert. I can't tell you this test is 100% accurate. What I can tell you is that I genuinely feel like this test has helped me improve my dog's life like I never thought I would be able to. It was well worth the money and the wait to see such a fast and dramatic change to Sugars wellbeing. I would recommend this product to anyone having allergy troubles with their fur babies in a heartbeat. … more
