How do you ensure the quality of ALPO dog food?

We maintain a strict code of standards for buying, storing and processing ingredients used in our pet foods. These standards are among the strictest in the pet food industry so you can feed our food with confidence.Visit here for more information.

How do I know how to feed my dog?**How do I know if my dog is overweight?**

Feeding your pet is 1 of the most important ways you can care for him. Once you have chosen the right food for your pet, you can develop a plan for portioning and scheduling.

Why can’t I find the calorie information on my can/bag of ALPO dog food?

Some of our pet food packages do contain caloric information. If the product package you feed does not contain this information, we’ll be more than happy to help.

What should I consider when selecting a dog food?

Select a dog food that is 100% complete and balanced for your pet’s life stage. All of our dog foods come with feeding instructions to help you properly feed your pet depending on his size. ALPO is complete and balanced for each life stage and will contribute to your pet’s overall health, along with regular exercise and attention to any of your pet’s special needs. Please visit our ALPO dog food products page to review and select 1 of our dog food products.

Do I need to introduce new food gradually to my dog?

You should consider gradually transitioning to new pet foods to help avoid dietary upset. We recommend consumers introduce a new pet food over a period of 7 - 10 days to help avoid dietary upset. Each day, increase the amount of the new food while decreasing the amount of the current food.

After opening, how long can wet food be left out?

We don’t recommend leaving wet food out for more than 2 hours after opening. Any remaining food should be refrigerated in a covered container and should be kept for no longer than 3 days.

Can I microwave canned pet food?

We do not recommend microwaving pet food that has been refrigerated. The food may heat unevenly, creating hot spots that could injure your dog’s mouth. In lieu of microwaving, we recommend allowing about 1 hour for the product to reach room temperature before serving.

What is complete & balanced nutrition in dog food?

Dog food makes up the entirety of a dog’s diet, so it needs to deliver all of the nutrients in appropriate amounts your dog needs at each life stage. That’s why dog foods so often use the phrase “complete and balanced.”

  • Crazy for it

    By on

Our 3 dogs are very picky when it comes to food. I bought this when our 3 dogs started to not eat their hard food and only preferred their soft dog food. They are all very different when it comes to eating. 1 has a sensitive stomach with hardly any teeth, 1 has a cast iron stomach, and the last 1 is female, (LOL). This food so far, they all LOVE and enjoy it. When it comes close to 5 PM they some how know and beg for dinner. Now, that I have said this, watch it will change.

  • Good Deal!!

My dog's love this food and it loves them. Their coats are shiny and full and they look and feel great after eating this food! Highly recommend if your dogs have issues with grains and preservatives in dry food. No more itching constantly and along with Zymox (also purchased on Chewy.com) finally kicked the yeast infection in retrievers ears, which I believe started due to some ill manufactured dry food I bought elsewhere! Give it a try! I bet your babies will love it too! Thanks Alpo and Chewy!!

  • Who doesn’t love filet mignon, bacon & top sirloin?

    By on

Seriously? I use the Alpo to mix in with his dry food. When he gets the chicken he also gets some roasted chicken mixed in and when he gets filet mignon and bacon he gets beef liver or lean ground beef and bacon bits mixed in with his dry food. And since he is a picky eater the Alpo perks up his appetite and keeps him interested in his meal. Thank you Alpo!

  • Soft ,hard to eat.

    By on

He liked it but being grounded was messy. He's a boxer and licks his food from dish. Have found chunks with gravy works better. Ended up adding water to make it more gravy like. This was my mistake. Guess I missed where info said it was ground. Did buy an other Alpo style and it is also ground.

  • Good food at great price

    By on

I like this food. I just add a little bit to both my dogs breakfast a can lasts 3 days. I perfer the alpo chophouse in gravy. It just looks like it would taste better and it has a higher protein content. However my dogs seem to be happy with both varieties.

  • Very versatile & a favorite in our home.

    By on

I bought this as a mix-in for the dry kibble I feed my friendly fur beasts (four of my five dogs are 55# or larger) and it worked perfectly for this, or served alone. My dogs also like it well enough that I have no problems getting them to take their meds... all I have to do is tuck their pill/s into a spoonful of this and they don't stop to ask questions.

  • PAMPERED DOGGIES

    By on

I have TEN doggies who go through a case every 2 days. At 4:00PM daily they all come and remind me that it's time for their ALPO CHOP HOUSE dinner. I mix it with their dry food and they GOBBLE it up. I have it on AUTO-SHIP and could not be happier.

  • Great topper for dry food.

    By on

I use canned food as a topper for dry food, with a little warm water. Makes a nice stew! This canned food actually smells good when opening the can, and my girls love the chunks of real meat. Will continue to buy this product.

  • Chop House is Yummy!

    By on

Even though Chop House looks like the old fashioned dog food (horse meat) it isn't anything like that. It has a nice consistence and with the mixture of chicken and beef it gives him a great taste for him to love.
