FAQ

How do you ensure the quality of ALPO dog food?

We maintain a strict code of standards for buying, storing and processing ingredients used in our pet foods. These standards are among the strictest in the pet food industry so you can feed our food with confidence. Visit here for more information.

How do I know how to feed my dog?

How do I know if my dog is overweight?

Feeding your pet is 1 of the most important ways you can care for him. Once you have chosen the right food for your pet, you can develop a plan for portioning and scheduling.

Why can’t I find the calorie information on my can/bag of ALPO dog food?

Some of our pet food packages do contain caloric information. If the product package you feed does not contain this information, we’ll be more than happy to help.

What should I consider when selecting a dog food?

Select a dog food that is 100% complete and balanced for your pet’s life stage. All of our dog foods come with feeding instructions to help you properly feed your pet depending on his size. ALPO is complete and balanced for each life stage and will contribute to your pet’s overall health, along with regular exercise and attention to any of your pet’s special needs. Please visit our ALPO dog food products page to review and select 1 of our dog food products.

Do I need to introduce new food gradually to my dog?

You should consider gradually transitioning to new pet foods to help avoid dietary upset. We recommend consumers introduce a new pet food over a period of 7 - 10 days to help avoid dietary upset. Each day, increase the amount of the new food while decreasing the amount of the current food.

After opening, how long can wet food be left out?

We don’t recommend leaving wet food out for more than 2 hours after opening. Any remaining food should be refrigerated in a covered container and should be kept for no longer than 3 days.

Can I microwave canned pet food?

We do not recommend microwaving pet food that has been refrigerated. The food may heat unevenly, creating hot spots that could injure your dog’s mouth. In lieu of microwaving, we recommend allowing about 1 hour for the product to reach room temperature before serving.

What is complete & balanced nutrition in dog food?

Dog food makes up the entirety of a dog’s diet, so it needs to deliver all of the nutrients in appropriate amounts your dog needs at each life stage. That’s why dog foods so often use the phrase “complete and balanced.”

Where do I find dog food coupons?

While we offer coupons from time to time on our ALPO website, click here to register and be among the first to know about any coupons or special promotions. Our coupons may also be featured online, in magazines, in newspapers, like the Sunday paper, in/on our packaging and occasionally in stores.

Where is ALPO dog food manufactured?

We proudly produce our food in US factories.

    Great for Picky Eaters

    By on

While Alpo isn't one of the best dog foods out there because of the meat by-products and some foods containing cancer causing ingredients it is great for picky dogs. I've yet to see a dog turn their nose up at Alpo. My picky dog wont even eat fresh meat but he scarfs up alpo like you wouldn't believe. I highly recommend to any one with a picky dog especially if that dog needs to put on weight!

    Its dog food

    By on

How can you review "dog food" .... Its dog food, it smells like dog food, it looks like dog food and guess what IT is dog food. My Puppies love it, crave it really...for them its like a huge Rib Eye steak and baked potato.... All you have to say is "Its dinner time" and they run to the pantry instead of their dog bowls....they know its NOT dinner until you open the ALPO.....

    Great for older dogs

    By on

My elderly dogs were starting to have a hard time eating dry food and would just nibble slowly all day. I'm now mixing 2/3 canned food with 1/3 dry food and they run to the bowl and eat it all at once. And look at me like I am a Goddess lol

The chunks fall out of the can and have loads of gravy.

Becket does not like Alpo's Chopped meat but loves this one. I give him a can of this then American Journey dry dog food. For some reason, he doesn't want me to blend them. As long as he eats is my quest. He was rescued when he was eight weeks old and I feel strongly he remembers someone hurting his Mom with food. He is very picky about everything he eats and won't accept chewable heartworm tables. He just turned five and by now, you'd think he'd be over the suspicious nature but he's not. I follow his lead. He won't even take a hotdog from me. I have to put it on a dish. This he eats with no problem! Thank God! :-)

    Dogs love it!!

    By on

I used to give my dogs Pedigree but the chunks were kind of big & I had to chop them up a bit. I tried the Alpo prime cuts & chunks aren't as thick & dogs seem to really like it a lot & I don't have to chop any of it up for them!

    They love it

    By on

My Mom and Dad give some of this with my dry food every night. I love it so much that I really eat it to fast but it definitely is good. I share just a little of this with my sister (cat-Shanel) but she eats so slow I have to sit down until she if finish. I make sure she cleans her bowl completely. I am sure glad my Mom and Dad order this for me and I know they like the free delivery!! I usually greet the UPS driver and some times I get a treat. Kelly (7year old Blk Lab from shelter)

    Great price from Chewy

I only feed this product as a flavor and like a tablespoon per bowl of food. She offered such a great price that I bought 10 cases! That is really great one taking care of many dogs!

    They're ok

I will go back to our previous brand. The dogs did fine and seemed to like it. I use the chunks to hide medicine in and this is not chunky. It's more like shredded pieces.
