Love this Brand of Food
We have been using this food with our dog for a few months now. The ingredients meet all of my expectations. And I have researched many brands, and this one checks all of the boxes.My dog loves this food and gobbles it up. We use the American Journey canned dog food as a topper. And he loves meals! His coat is supper shiny and healthy. And it has not caused him any stomach issues. He is a 1year old Lab mix. Chewy has excellent delivery times, and I love that it is delivered right to my front door.
Not the best, not the worst
My dogs were never excited about this food, but I liked the recipe and price point and they ate it without much issue. It sadly caused anal gland problems in two out of three of my dogs (great pyrenees and golden retriever), so we had to switch them to a different brand. Their issues cleared up almost immediately after switching their food, but came back if we ever tried to re-introduce the food. I’m not sure what would have caused this or if they shared an allergy to something in the recipe, but I decided it was safer to avoid it altogether. My husky never really liked the taste without food toppers, but it never caused any health issues for her thankfully! Overall, it’s ok but probably not the best option if you have a picky eater or allergy prone pup.
Dog liked, but too salty
Tried American Journey, Salmon flavor out, and my lab seemed to like it, however, she drank a lot of water with this food. She had better poops with this food, but going back to her previous food, due to too much salt in this food. If they significantly lessened the salt content, I would stick with this one.
Not their favorite
My two mutts will eat this food, but my one boy who usually eats fast and happily now stares at his bowl and takes a few bites at a time, taking him a lot longer to eat than he used to. I've also noticed they have stinky breath, a lot more gas, and their stool is not as solid with this food... and I did mix the food a little at a time for weeks before going full into it. I will be switching back to Purina one.
Won't buy again...
I ordered this because chewy was out of my usual pro plan salmon and rice. American Journey salmon, brown rice and vegetables contains chicken (which my dogs are sensitive to) and peas (which my vet warned me against feeding my dogs - she has read enough studies to believe there is a connection between peas and heart issues in dogs). If chewy doesn't get pro plan back in stock soon I'll be finding a new food supplier.
Dog enjoys this
My dog enjoys this kibble. Part of it is the novelty, but she will train for it. We also had no trouble switching from her old kibble to this one (appropriately introducing it about 20% every few days). I like that this is an affordable fish recipe option, and I'm looking forward to putting it in the rotation. Just as an FYI, the kibble pieces are smaller than some other brands, which could be good or bad depending on how you use the kibble (e.g. food-dispensing or puzzle toys).
Yes! They like it a lot
One dog already eats this flavor. Needed to change the other dog's food so went with this one. First all dogs (3) like American Journey. Reasona ly priced. Chewy is quick with our delivery. Makes life easier for this dog mom.
Sensitive dog food
My dogs do well on this food . I changed what we fed them because of the expense and took the chance that this would be ok for our German shepherd who has a sensitivity problem . The American journey dog food works well for both of them and they love it.
No problems !
I have two labs and a border collie. They had no problems with the switch, no digestion issues or dislike of the food. As time goes on I will watch for issues but my dogs had no trouble adapting.
Hearty, healthy food
My dog has done well with this food. She prefers the veggie, brown rice, salmon version to the sweet potato one. Love that it is grain free & seems to help with her dry skin.
