Some cats need more time and encouragement before they start enjoying a new food, especially if they’ve been eating dry food only, or a wet food with artificial flavors, corn, wheat or soy. If your cat doesn’t go for American Journey at first, don’t worry as this is totally normal. A little patience goes a long way. Aside from following the recommended transition instructions, here are some tips to help ensure a smooth transition:
Never any corn or soy, poultry by-product meals or artificial flavors.
The #1 ingredient is always real meat, poultry or fish.

I thought I would try this, my cats love chicken and turkey pate from other brands, but this was not the one. Neither wanted it, I had to mix it with other food to get them to eat some of it. The texture is really wet and goopy, but don’t know if it’s that or taste or what. I will just donate to my local shelter and stop torturing them.
It's hard to find an affordable, high protein, obligate carnivore-friendly wet food, but I have been using American Journey's pate for about a year now and my cat Igor is doing really well on it! I buy the 12.5oz cans (more cost effective) and I am pleased with the simple ingredients with poultry being the first one. Thanks Chewy!
How can you increase a price this high within months? We have ordered this cat food and the dry food for years. This is a ridiculous mark-up. Now I have to trial and error what my cats have will and won't eat..
Ridiculous price increase - 50% over six months. The cats like it and it's a great product but when the it costs as much as the competition you sought to undercut, you've shot yourself in the foot. I'd love to see the stats on your recent sales... I appreciate Chewy customer support but this move does not bode well. With four cats, I will be seeking alternatives.
I've been using this food since 2018. I love that it comes in big cans as we have four cats to feed, and the price point for grain free couldn't be beat. It was originally $26.99 for a tray back then... the price over the years has slowly crept up, but the recent jumps make this food nearly double the cost in 4 years. It's now cheaper to buy Dave's or Blue Buffalo. Extremely disappointing.
I run a 5001c3 animal rescue and I have one feral cat who is approximately 17 years old and this is the only brand that she eats. It is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING that you all have RAISED THE PRICE OF THIS FOOD OVER 30% in the last six months!!!! You all should be ashamed of yourself and if you don’t watch it you’re going to be out of business SMH!!!!!!
The quality of the food is good, and I have recommended it to a number of people for several years now. As a few others have noted, there was recently a massive price increase of about 30%. As such, I am switching over to Blue Buffalo, which has ironically become much less expensive than this food. I can no longer recommend American Journey with its price now on par with some of the top brands out there without the quality to match.
My cats love this brand and the flavor much healthier than other brands for the price the turkey how ever has very small pieces of bones in it occasionally and I am not a fan of at all neither do my 6 cats
As another reviewer noted the price for this was recently raised over 30% and has now gone up another $2 since last time I purchased last week. Beware if you are considering making this your regular food. I have cats with sensitive stomachs so it will be hard for us to find a new food but if the price keeps going up we will have to.
My 12 year old kitty had a bout of diarrhea & vomiting - after an overnight stay and $719 bill - the vet told me she had pancreatitis. I searched for recommended food and some of the American Journey foods came up and are some of the only affordable ones available. I ordered a case of chicken and another of turkey & salmon - thinking she would not like the new food - I also got some cans of Fancy Feast Gourmet naturals and packets of Sheba to doctor it up so it would be more palatable to her. To my surprise - she LOVED the American Journey! I've never seen her eat with such gusto - especially the chicken. I then ordered the turkey and chicken & tuna and she loves these as well! She used to beg me for dry food at night - sometimes refusing the canned and I would have to put some canned on her dry food to get her to eat it and leave some dry stuff out overnight. Since we started American Journey she has not asked for dry food AT ALL. She also has no teeth so I had to follow her around to feed her with a spoon but with this great food - she usually licks her plate clean before I get a chance to help her and she asks for more! I got the large 12.5 oz cans as they are more economical and thought I would have to freeze some but she goes through a can in 2 days so it is no problem. Now I just have to watch her so she does not gain weight - but she has been more active so it may not be an issue. The orders are received very quickly and customer service is great. I just wish American Journey made more flavors so we would have a better variety.
