Feeding Instructions

The following daily feeding recommendations show a suggested amount of food based upon the age and weight of your puppy/dog. Because many factors such as breed, activity level, environment and more can influence the amount of food your dog/puppy requires, American Natural Premium suggests that you adjust your feeding amounts to maintain a healthy body condition. To ensure your dog's good health, see your veterinarian regularly. Gestating and lactating femals may require 2-4 times more food and spayed or neutered dogs may require less food.

WeightAmount of Food (Normally Active Dog)
1-101/4 – 5/8
10-255/8- 1 1/4
25-501 /1/4 – 2 1/8
50-753 1/8- 4 1/8
75-1004 1/8- 5 1/8
100-1254 1/8- 5 1/8
125-1505 1/8- 6 1/8
Transition Instructions

When switching to an American Natural Premium Formula, a gradual transition is recommended, but not required. Start by adding a small amount of American Natural Premium pet food to your dog's current diet while reducing the amount of the old diet. Increase the amount of American Natural Premium for 7 - 10 days until the transition is complete. For sensitive dogs, we recommend a 10-14 day transition.

    Changing dog food brand

    By on

Thank you so much for sending the new brand as well as my regular dog food order. I'm in the process of changing brands for my two dogs. Going forward in four weeks I will order my automatic monthly order for American Premium. Thank you

    Not for us

    By on

I had been feeding Canyon River and a few other foods mixed in for variety. Thought I would add this to the mix. I found/bought this because it was legume free. However, when I placed it down and mixed it in their food they turned their noses up at it (even picked around it/spit it out). It has a greasy feel and honestly, doesn't smell appetizing. I am keeping the bag because the smaller dog will snack on it and I have been grinding it up and using it with veggies, rice and fruits to make "dog snacks".

    From all homemade to this!

    By on

We have a 10 month old goldendoodle at the time of this review. I started with a strictly homemade diet but needed a kibble for emergencies and convenience. We started on another very holistic clean brand which was great but switched to this to take legumes out of his diet because I was noticing a little digestive stress so his vet mentioned it could maybe be from legumes. He also does well on the healthy grains in this. I went to a homemade turkey and rice diet for a week and then transitioned to this and he’s been a happy boy! I do give him a digestive enzyme in a little pumpkin with his meals but even when I forget he does great! It’s so tough choosing a kibble for your pup so good luck! Sigh..Same ole thing

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

I finally got schmart, lol, and am now buying food in 5-15 lb bags now since there are so many foods that either some or all my gang flat won't eat. This is one of them. None of the dogs like this. They will let it sit forever. I have mixed goodies with it and sometimes they won't eat the goodies either. I even fed this to a neighbor dog that doesn't get taken care of at all, and he even left most of it.So I fed it to the birds outside. I used to feed turkey (a different brand) several years ago and all my dogs loved it, but maybe it was the pumpkin in this.

    Wonderful Brand

    By on

My dog loves pumpkin and he was very excited over this flavored food, so I broke down and bought this for him. OMG He eats the WHOLE BOWL in one feed! The only negative I have is Chewy is $20 more than buying it locally. May say free shipping but thats what they are charging you is that shipping for $20. Be a better consumer for your pets.

Chosen because it has no legumes, peas, or potatoes

    By on

due to research indicating a potential link between feeding grain free and legume diets and canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). I also mix foods brands to ensure they get any nutrients missing in one. The food transition has gone well and most importantly, the furkids like it!

    These Treats are good

    By on

I have senior dogs and they can no longer eat hard treats. I believe in pumpkin in their diet as much as possible because it is so good for them. These are larger treats that are easy for them to chew and work out well.

    Excellent food

    By on

Dog loves this food and I love the recipe and ingredients this American company uses! Been feeding for several months after I became alarmed with the grain free, legume link to DCM. I was using Fromm, which is a good company but not doing enough (in my opinion) to reduce or eliminate legumes and add back grains to their foods. I'll never go back, this is our forever food for sure. Yes, it's expensive but so are vet bills if your dog develops DCM or has digestive issues or allergies. I'll make some personal sacrifices if I have to as long as it's the right food!

    SOLUTION FOUND!!!!!

    By on

After trying, for nearly 3 months, to successfully transition our Weim to a new, grain inclusive food, we finally got it right! He has been on grain free his entire 8 years, but the DCM issues forced us to change. We tried 3 foods, doing the very slow transition, with horrible results. Soft, loose stool, terrible gas and rumbling tummy, all around not feeling well. I was ready to just go back to his original grain free if necessary, to let him feel well again! Last try was the American Natural Premium Turkey with Pumpkin. He is doing great! Back to himself in only 2 weeks! Couldn't be happier. Plus, he loves it!

    Great review by the dog!

    By on

All of a sudden we have allergy issues with Flax and soy and had to find something FAST. When I first looked at the bag I couldn't find the list of ingredients and then I realized that instead of small font in a little tiny corner the ingredients were in BIG font in the middle of the bag - and I thought, "these folks are PROUD of their ingredients!" Our dog LOVES the 2 flavors we have tried, and had no trouble at all changing over to this new food. The small size pieces could be bigger but we can live with the little bits - especially since she doesn't leave any on the floor where we'd step on them!
