FAQ

How do I diagnose a health problem in my fish?

Many disease symptoms will be clearly visible, such as white streaks, lesions, protruding eyes, and other unusual marks or spots on your fish. If you suspect your fish has a disease, it will fall under the categories of fungal, parasitic, or bacterial. One way to diagnose is by matching fish symptoms to the description of a wide range of API medications, which include treatments specific to Ich disease, Betta fish, and various common symptoms (hole-in-the-head, eye cloud, fin & tail rot, etc.)

Does API BETTAFIX treat popeye?

This medication is perfect for wounds, ulcers, mouth fungus, and fin & tail rot, but will not treat popeye. For popeye treatment, API MELAFIX is recommended.

Will API BETTAFIX affect the snails in my tank?

This medication is designed for use with tropical fish only, and may cause harm to your snails.

How much API BETTAFIX should I use in a 3 gallon aquarium?

Instructions state to add 9 drops per pint, or 18 drops per quart, of aquarium water. For larger bowls or aquariums, add ½ teaspoon per U.S. gallon of water. Repeat dose daily for up to 7 days, and then perform a water change.

  • Does Not Work

    By on

I have two bettas with fin rot in two different aquariums. One betta has moderate fin rot, and the other had very mild fin rot. After two weeks of treatment in both tanks, it is not helping either of them. The betta with the least amount of fin rot when I started using this product has gotten worse. Not sure if I will buy bettas again or not when they are gone because even though I love bettas, I want them to be able to live a happy and healthy life if I am going to have them.

My betta fish Jake was starting to get splitting of his tail and it was a little ruffed up. We started using this product and within a few days my Jakey was looking beautiful! His tail is healing and his color looks so colorful and vibrant! I also love this product because it is all natural and wont hurt my baby Jake!

  • Not as helpful as I’d hoped

    By on Top 1000 Contributor

This did not cure my beta’s Fin Rot as I’d hoped it would. I followed the directions on the bottle, moving Sai to a hospital tank. I was also using StressCoat in addition. It seemed to help stop the rotting progression - immediately being followed by aquarium salt for 10 days - but he isn’t cured or growing back healthy tissue.

  • 7 is to much

    By on

The directions say to give it to the betta fish for seven days, that is to many. My friend’s fish and my fish went crazy after 3 days so I suggest 2 days every other day and give it a rest

  • Mixed Results

    By on

I've used this product a few times when my betta has contracted fin rot and facial sores. It took a long time to work on its own, and I found that doing aquarium salt baths helped heal him much faster, although treating with both seemed to be most effective. I mostly use this when I'm doing a water change by adding a few drops to my betta's isolation tank while I'm cleaning the main tank and it seems to help prevent diseases.

  • Fixed my fishy!

This worked really well! It came fast, and once I figured out the right ratio, my betta recovered quickly. I did catch the fin rot rather early though.

My betta had a large gash on his head from scraping it on an ornament about a month ago. Gash wasn't getting worse but wasn't getting better for about 3 weeks. Added Bettafix and wound was healed in a week!

  • It Worked for my betta.

    By on

This healed my betta's fins in a few days that got torn from the plants in the fish tank. It also healed the betta's head that had a white patch on his head. Which I think it was a fungal infection. I recommend this.
