Connect with a Vet is a feature that enables you to connect conveniently with licensed veterinarians and get answers to your pet’s health and behavior related questions or concerns. Veterinarians available on the Connect with a Vet feature cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions or prescribe medication.

Why did Chewy launch the Connect with a Vet feature?

As our day-to-day lives have changed throughout the course of this year, many more pet parents are seeking answers to their pet's health questions from the comfort of their own homes. Across the country, veterinary operations have also been impacted, and veterinarians are seeking new ways to interact and help pet parents. This need has inspired us to find a new way to connect licensed veterinarians to pet parents seeking answers to their most pressing health & wellness questions.

What type of health and wellness issues can Chewy veterinarians address?

Through the Connect with a Vet feature, most health and behavior related questions can be addressed (some examples below). Veterinarians can also provide clarity on the urgency of the situation and inform you when you need an in-person consult or need to seek emergency care. If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening situation, please go directly to the closest veterinary clinic.

  • “My dog ate chocolate, or socks, or sneakers (you know how it is) and is not feeling well”
  • “I’m not sure if I’m feeding my dog the right food, can you provide some guidance?”
  • “My cat has stopped eating his food and is lethargic?”

Can I request a prescription refill?

Licensed Veterinarians available on the Connect with a Vet feature cannot prescribe medication or authorize refills. Please consult your local veterinarian for help. If you do not have a local veterinarian, our veterinarians can assist you in locating one close to your location.

When is the Connect with a Vet feature available?

Connect with a Vet is available every day from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET.

Who is eligible to use the Connect with a Vet feature?

We are presently offering this service to our customers residing in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming.    

How can I Connect with a Vet?

To seek expert advice from licensed veterinarians, simply click the “Connect Now” button from your desktop or mobile device. You will have two options for connecting with a vet, via chat or video.

Chat will proceed into a live chat with one of our veterinarians and also have the option to upload photos and videos of your pet. Video will proceed to pre-scheduling a video call as early as 30 minutes in the future and up to 2 weeks in advance depending on availability. Video appointments are 20-minutes.
