  • The Litter-Robot simply requires clumping litter. We recommend a high-quality, standard-weight, clay-based clumping litter, Some silica gel litter beads and crystals can also be used with the Litter-Robot, as long as they pass through the screen. Alternative, plant-based litters may also work, but t...more hese tend to form looser clumps that can cause condensation in the waste drawer. When using a plant-based litter, we recommend emptying the waste drawer and cleaning more frequently. Litters that do not work in the Litter-Robot are the strictly absorbent, non-clumping or loose-clumping litters, newspaper-based litters, and absorbent wood pellet litter.

  • Yes! I have been using pretty litter in my litter robot for about two months now. I have tried it in both the litter robot and a normal litter pan. As many reviews state, pretty litter can be quite dusty when scooping/stirring (which you need to do daily) so I didn't like it in a standard li...more tter pan. I found it works quite well however in the litter robot as it doesn't release nearly as much dust as manually scooping AND the litter robot keeps the litter stirred regularly making it a great option. My cats took to it immediately and I have found it doesn't track outside of the litter box as badly as standard clumping clay litters do! The downside to using pretty litter in the robot is that you won't necessarily see the color change to be able to monitor your cat's health which is the main reason to choose it over other crystal litters in the first place. To get around this, I just manually run it periodically to check.
