can I use thks filter for my baby water turtle
Answer by ChewyMar 22, 2021
This filter is mainly for tanks that keep shrimp and other small freshwater invertebrates.

Does the water go in the bottom and out the top? I have shrimp and snails along with small fish. I don't want to kill the with a filter.
Answer by ChewyJan 12, 2021
This aquarium filter is for those tanks that keep shrimp and other small freshwater invertebrates. It features a special intake grid and foam sponge to prevent shrimp from entering the housing. The water intake is at the bottom.

Can I use this on a 5 gallon?
Answer by ChewyMay 21, 2021
These filters can be used for tanks up to 10 and 20 gallons, depending on model purchased. The 10 gallon filter can be used for a 5 gallon tank.

Noisy and the pump is bad

I have had this filter along side another filter on a ten gal aquarium. It has only been on the tank for about a week new and the motor on the pump keeps bubbling and making a grinding sound. It’s so loud that it keeps me up all night. I even tried to remove all of the media to see if it wasn’t getting enough water, but it did it with nothing but water in it too (how I noticed the bubbling). The intake does have a nice sponge on it for shrimp tanks or fry. Overall it’s a nice looking internal filter, but way too loud over time.

Stuck with the other 4

I bought 2 the first time because the price was good! We have 19 aquariums of random sizes ..aqueon is a reputable brand/company so naturally I assumed these would be a great addition to go along with my other filters....then I got 4 more without first trying out one of the two from my first purchase ..it's nice to have backups ..well I got one going and not long after it was loud and made a disturbingly vibrating noise. Even after some tinkering with it - still not a good product. I tried a 2nd and same situation..I have 4 in shelf and doubt they will work as described ..especially after reading the reviews. What a disappointment

So far...excellent filters!

After over two weeks of using these, I can say that they are great little filters. I have two on a 20 gallon long. They provide some flow for my plants and paradise fish, and yet there is not too much flow. They are quiet and I have no complaints. I first purchased four and then two, so that if (based on reviews) I had a bad impeller, then I had backup impellers. For less than $7 each, it has been well worth it. Let's see how they are in a few months.

It works fine, then breaks.

It works for a few weeks. Then the filter starts to make a loud noise despite taking it apart completely and reassembling it. The water flow slows to a slow drip. Would not recommend. Has happened to two same filters.

Worked well for a few weeks

It did work for 2-3 weeks. Now it runs annoyingly loud. Have tried many solutions to no avail. Would not buy again.

great, cheap internal filter, after easy DIY upgrade

Straight out of the box, this filter is pretty unspectacular. However, removing the plastic frame that hold the sponge and filter cartridge frees up ample space for custom media. Simply cut filter sponge <https://www.chewy.com/penn-plax-cascade-aquarium-bio-sponge/dp/213192> and <https://www.chewy.com/fluval-water-polishing-pad/dp/188338> to size and place at bottom of chamber (coarser sponge on bottom). Then place biological media <https://www.chewy.com/aquaclear-biomax-filter-insert/dp/188286> (not 100% sure on size of this item) and you're done. To do this with multiple filters, get <https://www.chewy.com/cobalt-aquatics-mesh-media-bag/dp/269702> and <https://www.chewy.com/fluval-c4-c-nodes-filter-media/dp/124113> for biological media. Large sheets of various grade filter sponge can be found on other sites.

stopped working during warranty, company hasn’t responded

I’ve only had this filter for 2 months before it completely stopped working. I tried everything including cleaning it out & flowing tank water through it. I sent an email to aqueon the day it happened & they have yet to reach back out to me even though it says they get back within 1-2 business days. I’ve left emails & a voice message. It’s been about a week that my fish has been filterless as I’ve been waiting for them to get back with me with a replacement. I plan on buying a different filter from a different company. Do not buy this filter.

Pump quiets shortly after purchasing

I bought this in December, and by the time end of January hit, it became very loud and stopped sucking in water like it was plugged or ran out of water. I checked to see if it was any of those problems and was not plugged or low on water. I have 10 gallon tank just like it says for the box. I’m very disappointed in it and now I’m doing everything I can to clean up the tank since the pump failed while I was away for a few days.

Quiet Operation,

I bought this and I am very happy with the quality. I enjoy the pre-filter medium that I can swap out and clean. This is s very quiet filter and fits nicely in my 22gal long, rimless aquarium. I can hide it very effectively.
