Decent house for the price but runs small

By BigApple on Nov 7, 2019

We bought the large Aspen Pet Barn (rated for dogs 50-90 lbs) when our Great Pyr / Lab mix was only 5 weeks old, and it seemed huge at the time. It was summer and she never really used the house, so we thought she didn't care for it. This fall as the temps dropped, she has slept in it every night. Her "den" is on our covered deck so the Aspen pet barn doesn't have to withstand much rain or snow, but it has been a cozy den for her and offers great wind protection. However, she just turned 6 months old and is right under 70 lbs, yet she can barely fit into the house even when curled in sleep. Regardless of the weight rating, I don't think she'll be able to use the dog house much longer and definitely not up to 90 lbs. I highly advise that you ignore the weight suggestions and instead look at the measurements to see if this house will work for your pup. I wish we were able to get more use from this house, but I'm now back at Chewy looking for something else. If all of the estimations are correct, our lady may be 120-130 lbs in adulthood. Will the LEGIT houses for large breeds please come forward??? … more

    Don't waste your money

    By on

This dog house is a total waste of money. The top is bigger than the bottom and it doesn't snap together so it's worthless.

    Sorry I believed the reviews!

    By on

I'm sorry I purchased this nice looking dog house! I bought this a few Mo.ago and am finally going to write a Review. This fills with about 4" of water in the bottom when it rains. Couldn't figure out why our Red Healer wouldn't lay in the dog house after a few times during the day. We got it for a little shade when he is outside. He's he is in and out during the day and inside at night. I moved it to the back deck..didn't help. I look at it every day and think of what I paid for it. Got back out his big wooden house. Not happy

    Not for cats

    By on

Outside cats won't go in it & I've put warm fuzzy blankets, catnip, treats, etc in there showing them & they won't go in. I think it needs windows & a bigger opening so they don't feel trapped. Also some water does get in it at the opening.
