Azithromycin can be given on an empty stomach but always give this medication exactly according to your veterinarians prescribe instructions. Azithromycin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by halting the protein production of susceptible bacteria which causes it to stop growing and reproducing. If bacteria cannot grow or reproduce, it will eventually die and the infection will resolve with some assistance from the body's immune system.
The bloodstream will carry Azithromycin from the GI tract to infected tissues. It will stop the growth and reproduction of susceptible bacteria so your pet's infection will resolve. Your pet's symptoms should improve. It can take several doses before improvement is observed. If your pet seems worse or his/her symptoms are not resolving after all medication is completed, call your veterinarian.
My cat does not like the cherry flavor of this medicine. I have to give him some every 72 hours. He actually runs from me when I come to get him. I do appreciate having it come as a powder since we are doing a 6 week course. I split the powder in half and reconstituted half and then the other half 3 weeks in.
No matter where you get this it comes as powder - if you buy locally, your pharmacist mixes in the water for you. The difference is you get it cheaper through Chewy, get it delivered to your door, & follow the directions on the bottle to mix yourself. Once water is added the timer starts on the 'shelf life' & you wouldn't want that wasted on transit time during shipment. My 18yr old cat has chronic respiratory infections that cause him to stop eating and lose weight. I can get this big bottle, mix part of it & keep some on hand. If his infection blows up again in several weeks I can call my vet & immediately mix him a new batch. This has been the only workable solution we have found long term to keep him on the right track. And I don't panic about missed shots into his mouth if he's having a squirmy day since I have some extra.
Yes its a powder, YES it does say ADD WATER.... This worked amazingly for my kitten with an awful respiratory infection. 10/10 the only difference from getting it on here vs the pharmacy is the liquid is added there (water) and they include a dropper... Its much cheaper here vs the $45 from the pharmacy. (this is also a FDA approved HUMAN drug as well as animal... which is why you will NOT be able to pick it up from your vet
Once it is mixed with water it has a 10 day shelf life. Also syringes cost next to nothing... Just because you dont understand the medicine doesnt mean there is something wrong with it. Also your cat or dog isnt going to like any medication flavor, learn how to give it properly and you wont have an issue.
We were prescribed this antibiotic for our sick furrbaby. It seemed to help him a lot. It is one of two medicines we are trying to help him get better.
It is good that this product is a powder, because when it becomes mixed with water it only has a 10 day shelf life. I have shopped for this product in many places, and I have never seen a flavor made for cats or dogs. I believe the primary audience for this dosage are small children and infants.
great product for dogs or cats the azithromycin is very effective thanks
I was expecting a liquid and got a powder that I can't use.
My kitty doesn't like CHERRY BANANA flavor. Caution when ordering for a pet - ASK WHICH FLAVOR
My cat had a URI for MONTHS. Nothing would make it go away. My vet prescribed this and it knocked the URI right out of him. FINALLY he can breath again!
