How do I chat online with a veterinarian?
There are two easy ways to connect with our veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
Live Chat consults will connect you instantly, so you can get advice right when you need it. Use the text-based live chat to exchange messages, pictures, and videos with the veterinarian or veterinary technician.
Video Consults are scheduled in advance, so you can select a date and time that works best for you. There are usually same-day appointments available, or you can schedule a video call up to 2 weeks in advance. All video consults are 20-minutes long. You’ll be able to see and talk with the online vet or vet tech, as well as show your pet on camera.

Virtual vet consults are supplementary to in-office visits. Our telehealth team cannot diagnose or treat medical conditions or prescribe medications for your pet.
How is a new pet video consult different from a regular video consult?
A new pet video consult is designed with parents of new cats and dogs in mind. In the new pet consult, the veterinary professional will provide guidance on a variety of topics that are important for all pet parents to know, personalizing their advice to your pet’s unique needs. After the consult, you’ll receive a welcome home guide for your pet. The guide includes a custom checklist with actions to take after your dog or cat’s consult, helpful educational resources, and a list of items recommended by our vet team.
In a regular video consult, the online vet or vet tech will provide advice about a specific topic or question that's on your mind. Most pet parents use the service to get help with a new or ongoing health or wellness concern. After a regular video consult, you’ll receive a personalized consult report via email.

Whenever it's time for an in-office exam or vaccination, or you need to discuss your pet’s prescriptions, it’s important to follow up with your regular veterinarian.
When are veterinarians available on Connect with a Vet?
Live chat consults with an online vet or vet tech are available from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. Eastern Time, and video consults are available from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Eastern Time. Our expert telehealth team is here 365 days a year, including holidays.
Can I get a prescription refill on Connect with a Vet?
Connect with a Vet veterinarians and veterinary technicians cannot prescribe medication for your pet or authorize medication refills. Please consult your local veterinary clinic for help with medications. If you aren’t sure where to go, our telehealth team can refer you to a veterinary clinic in your area.
