Feed your duck twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Ducklings should be free-fed or fed multiple times per day.
Ducks prefer food in a variety of forms. Mixed grain blend duck diets with ingredients like milo, corn, wheat, seeds and nuts tend to be well-liked, but many ducks also like duck food pellets. Younger ducks may have an easier time eating duck crumbles, and many adult birds enjoy the texture of crumbles, too.
The main foods in a duck's diet in the wild include grasses and grains, aquatic plants, insects, worms, snails, small amphibians and crustaceans. If you are raising ducks, you can buy a commercial duck feed that delivers complete and balanced nutrition. Choose from duck pellets, duck seed food mixes, starter feeds, layer feeds and more. You can also use certain types of poultry feed as duck food, just be sure to choose one that is labeled for use by ducks. Leafy greens and vegetables are also an important part of a duck's diet, and mealworms may be fed as a special treat.
Foods that are unsafe for ducks include avocados, citrus, onions, chocolate, coffee and nuts. Bread and junk food are also bad for ducks, even though they will gladly eat these potentially harmful foods.
