Description

Back to the Roots Water Garden Fish Tank is a self-cleaning fish tank that also grows organic microgreens, houseplants, and herbs! It’s a low maintenance miniature aquaponics system that fits in any kitchen or classroom. Your pet fish produces nutrient-rich organic waste that pumps through the tank and up to fertilize the plants above. The fish feed the plants, and the plants clean the water. Poorly designed filter

By Destino on Jan 1, 2021

I loved the concept. Allwas good then a couple weeks in I noticed that my fish was a bit ratty. I went and bought all the supplies, check the water, talked to a specialist etc... all should have been fine but my fish slowly started looking de-scaled and fins were shorter. Then one day I came home and poor guys was suctioned under the filter. I jumped in and tried to free him but his fins were shredded and half his body was de-scaled. he floated and sank and then floated and sank until i had to take a hammer to his head and end his life after hours of sobbing. I am, and was devastated. heartbroken. In the morning an adorable and happy fish.. and after work... gone. My father noted that while i I loved the concept. This tank was built for Bettas in mind... if the engineering stages had been properly completed they would have noticed the suction as well. Imagine a tank designed for you- kills you. My fish mattered to me. please dont make others have to do the same as I did. let my fish live into old age. I have contacted the company on multiple events and have not heard back except through a facebook message that re-routed me to the same email I had prior to. I like the idea of your tanks.. but design flaw that kills fish is unacceptable... please please go back and make your filter better! … more

    No Good For a Fish

By fishfriends on Feb 5, 2021

3 gallons is incredibly small. Most fish cannot thrive in a tank this size, including a betta. And while a betta Can technically survive in a tank this size, it likely won’t reach its full life span. A betta can live to be around 5 years old with proper care that just can’t be supplied in such a small tank. If you want a betta, please get at least a 5 gallon and make sure to cycle your tank before placing any living animal in it.

    Plants DONT poop.

By Weezie on Jun 14, 2018

Corgipup233- I had to write this review to address the crazy information you wrote. This tank really is a balanced ecosystem. Plants take in the waste products of the beta and grows. While doing this the plant expirates OXYGEN as waste. Not poop. OXYGEN.OXYGEN is your so-called plant poop.

    Recommended with reservations

By Tmag on Mar 1, 2018

The plants don’t actually need a fish to grow, ours are thriving though two bettas have died. Back to roots sent a new starter kit but told us the tank is actually large for a betta and needs spring water plus a heater. Sooooo, we will get an alternate fish. Fun concept

Great gift and so much fun!

By Lamber on Jul 28, 2017

I received my Water Garden as a gift. I'm not great with instructions or anything green, but this made me feel much more confident in both areas :) So simple to put together and immediate results. Enjoy!

This looks good on paper. But doesn't benefit the fish much

    By TG13 on Mar 28, 2017

Bettas thrive in heated, filtered aquariums. The plant roots will help keep the water clean, but not as well as a regular aquarium with plants growing IN the aquarium. Plus no light to view the fish. Bettas enjoy live aquarium plants and need places to hide and rest. Plus they stop eating if they get too cold. My Bettas average about 5yrs lifespan. I would not recommend this as a Betta tank.
