Description

Soothe and protect your pet’s sensitive skin with Bag Balm Pet Skin Moisturizer. With just four simple ingredients that have remained unchanged since it was first developed in 1899, Bag Balm is an incredibly versatile, long-lasting moisturizer that’s perfect for treating chafed, cracked, damaged skin on pets of all shapes and sizes. The alcohol-free, no-sting formula is made with Petrolatum to moisturize and Lanolin to soothe and soften; it’s also uniquely formulated to discourage pets from licking it. No one knows when the first farmer tried Bag Balm on the paws of the family dog, but it didn’t take long for word to get around about how well it worked. After the 9-11 tragedy in New York, Bag Balm was used to soothe the dry, cracked paw pads of the search dogs who relentlessly scoured the mountains of rubble at the site of the Twin Towers.

My itty bitty pitty had a horrible rash on the inside of his hind legs and on his "bits" , the combination of the brutal cold and him liking to slide his back end across the carpet left him raw and red. No open wounds or oozing Just severely chapped, raw red skin. I had no idea what to use and started searching after trying plain coconut oil and a combo of avocado, jojoba and coconut oil did nothing to give him relief. I'm pretty picky about what I put on my pets so I found the best, most natural chemical free option. It's like a spreadable Vaseline, not the greatest for your carpets or furniture but I laid old blankets throughout the house and gave him a good coating. I couldn't believe one application of this stuff could make such a noticeable improvement but it honestly did. I applied this twice a day for 3 days and by the third day it was completely gone, this stuff WORKS!. He's like a new man and felt instantly better as he usually doesn't like me touching his tummy let alone his bits lol. I'm so glad I found it and it helped him heal so quickly. My vet recommended this also after I had already ordered it he told me about it so I knew it was gonna be great stuff. Sorry I didn't take after pics but this will give you an idea how bad it was. … more

  • Good stuff.

I had heard lots of good things about bag balm, since my dad was raised on a farm, so I decided to try it out on my chihuahuas dried out nose. It seems to help her a bit and her nose is looking better (not perfect but we've been using it less than a week) but it works fantastic for skin irritation! My other dog- a chi/terrier mix had scratched her neck red and sore and it was taking a very long time to heal, it was red for multiple days so I stuck some of the pet bag balm on it and the next day it looked SO much better. The skin had turned pretty much normal and the following day her hair started growing back in. Worked better than the Dermagic I bought that was more expensive. However it wasn't used on a hot spot, just an anxiously over scratched neck. The price for the bag balm might appear high per ounceage, but the value for the largest size isn't too bad considering a little goes quite a long way. (Plus its cheaper than other fancy formulated things for the same issues, and it might just work better- at least on my dogs.) This will be great for when their paw pads get dried out during the summer. It doesn't smell fantastic, but it isn't terrible. And if you're concerned about your pet licking it off, my terrier mix hates the smell so she won't lick it (its repulsive to her) but my Chihuahua thinks it smells delicious. Just the dogs preference! … more

  • Works well, but my dog licks it

    By on

My Winnie had very dry, cracked paws. She also had a small cut on her foot. Bag balm has helped tremendously. It’s hard to put on her as she hates to have her feet touched but I am hoping eventually she will tolerate it. I did take away one star as she licks my hands and her paws while it is being put on. It soaks in quickly so it is still effective.

  • Years of Use!

    By on

I have used Bag Balm on my horses for many years and now purchased it for my dog. He's quite large and had a small pressure point on his leg that was calloused and missing hair. The ointment softened the spot and helped the hair to grow back. I also used it on my sheltie's paw pads as they were somewhat dry and rough this winter- worked well!

  • Definitely helping his paws

    By on

My dog cracked his paw open because he runs around so much (he's an Aussie). I definitely feel like it's working to moisturize his feet... However, it says it "discourages licking" and that is absolutely not true. My silly dogs want to lick it straight out of the can when I put it on them. As soon as I release them, they go to town licking it off so I have to put socks on them to give it a chance to work.

  • My dogs wants to eat this stuff

    By on

It says formulated to discourage licking but my chocolate lab thinks this stuff is a treat. When I let her smell it the first time she just tried eating it. When I put it on her paws I just tell her not to eat it- but she really wants to. Luckily it does say it's okay for them to lick off in small doses.

  • Life Saver

My English Bulldog has always had a dry cracking nose issue. I have tried multiple products that he normally licked off. This product lived up to its description. He didn't lick it off and it worked after the first application. Great product and I won't ever not have some for him.

  • No results for my 2 yr old lab

    By on

Purchased this for my 2 yr old lab who's paws were so dry and cracking. Product states formula discourages licking. This was not the case what so ever. All my lab wanted was to lick it all off. Have been using it on her paws for a week now but doesn't seem to be helping with the cracking pads so far. Also have been placing on hot spots in hopes of relieving her dry skin but all it did was get her fur greasy and did not do anything for her skin yet even after being massaged in daily. Maybe it works for some dogs and not others but I am not satisfied with the product so far. Will be looking for something else.

  • This stuff is the BALM!!!

    By on

My vet recommended for my dogs chapped nose; it was dry, cracked, & painful. I used it 2x day x1 wk and her nostrils and nose skin is starting to return to normal. I had tried other lotions and creams-even vaseline but Bag Balm healed it effectively. It was odorless and stayed put for max exposure. Highly recommend for noses and paws!! (One tin will last you awhile too.)

  • Definitely does NOT discourage licking.

    By on

I just received this today, so I can't comment on whether or not it is effective. I can definitely say that the claims of discouraging licking are false. My pup has licked himself completely raw in the 20 minutes this stuff has been on him. Gave 2 stars in the hopes that the other claims are accurate.
