How do you dispose of this at the end of the month? Can the entire thing be placed in the recycle bin as-is?
Answer by ChewyJul 20, 2022
Each tray is disposable and recyclable, so when it gets too soiled to use, another clean one is ready to replace it. All you have to do is pick up solids as you would on a walk or at the dog park. Each one typically lasts up to a month depending on the amount of usage. Disposal depends on what you have available in your area. With that said, we suggest cutting the netting and dumping the bark into a green bin / yard waste collection, if available. The rest of the unit can be recycled. The bark can also simply go into the regular trash. If doing that, it's best to not put the bark in a sealed trash bag, as that prevents it from naturally biodegrading.

If my puppy eats any others bark, is it safe?
Answer by ChewyJul 23, 2022
The wood used in Bark Potty is 100% FSC certified natural bark from Northern California and is not treated with any chemicals. Of course, dogs still shouldn't eat any part of the unit. The bark is non-toxic and not dangerous in that way. However, it is not processed as food, so safety protocols around food handling are not in place during the production process. It is out of abundance of caution that we recommend not letting your dog eat the potty. To help deter this behavior, we recommend using a bitter spray on the potty. That way, the next time your dog gets anything in their mouth, it will be sour and gross and help deter them from wanting to do it again.

Can I use this for my cat?
Answer by ChewyMar 04, 2022
Bark Potty is suitable for cats as an alternative to using litter. To help with the transition, we recommend placing the Bark Potty where you would normally have your litter box or even inside the box if its fits. You can sprinkle a little litter on top of the unit until your cat confidently uses it on their own without it.

It looks like there is some sort of mesh on top of the bark. What is the mesh made of? I see the length and width measurements, but how high is the actual cardboard box? Thanks.
Answer by ChewyFeb 17, 2022
The mesh netting is plastic and the height is 2-3 inches on both the Standard and Large sizes.

Works good..

I really like this whole idea of having your fur babies doing their business on the bark tray idea. I bought the large size for my 2 Corgis. Everything works out well for the most part. The downfall is that I still have a bit of a problem with making sure they don't try to rip off the net and take the barks out. I'm constantly supervising them. Also, I love the idea of having poop bags attached to the side, but MY GOODNESS, please make the bags better. It takes me almost 2 minutes to try to open 1 bag. It's so frustrating!! And the bags are not that great too. It's super thin, rip easily, and my Corgis love to pull them out when the bag tabs are showing! Frustrating!! But overall, I would purchase again. Just need more improvements!!

Works with training! (beware of chewing)

I was using a piddle place before this which is also a great product but I was having trouble emptying regularly and without it being gross. I saw this and the price turned me off but then I looked at how much the enzyme spray was for the piddle place, it wasn't as big of a difference as I thought. When I first put it down I was discouraged as my guy immediately went to start eating the chips and chewing on the plastic cage that keeps them in and then peed on my patio haha. I put the piece of turf from the piddle place on top of it and that solved my issues and he saw it as his place to go. Keep in mind he was already trained to go in this place on this turf from when he was a puppy. He has pooped next to it instead of on it a few times since but we are working on that. I do wish this was just a little cheaper (4 stars for that), but the conveniences of not having to empty anything filled with pee, and keeping my outside area clean are worth it to me. I will say I would 100% not want this or the piddle place actually in my apartment, maybe if I had a super small toy dog under 10lbs I would consider that type of set up but even with my guy being a small dog at 15lbs it would just not work for me. That being said it is on my fairly large balcony and I don't feel like it is gross and don't smell anything out there from this, he has been using it for about a week. I did buy the bigger version since that was the same size as his piddle place, I don't know if that means it will last longer since he is such a small dog but as of now, I plan to replace it at 3-4 weeks and see how that goes.

Disappointed

Got this for my pup also the spray you recommended (bitter) as my dog was chewing the bark and pulling it through the netting making a big mess. If maybe the netting was smaller. Not sure if this works for my dog. She does go on it though and have only had a few days so I guess time will tell.

Good for Peace of Mind

This product gave me peace of mind to not feel constantly pressured to walk my dog 2 to 5 times a day day in day out She used it but it only lasted a week without starting to smell while simultaneously flooding with pee I would still buy it but 30 something a week is not super ideal every single week Either way ultimately I would still purchase for the reprieve I get from walking her everyday

Dissapointed

Didn’t work for my 9w old pup. We used the spray that came with it to “attract” the dog to the potty however our pup rips out the wood through the netting and eats it. We’re stuck cleaning bark all over the house. Love the idea. Was really rooting for this. Disappointed that it didn’t work out us.

truly amazed by bark potty!

TL;DR: our 14-week old chihuahua took to bark potty as if she had been using it her entire life. if you are even slightly considering, just do it. we live in an apartment in an urban area with plenty of dogs, raccoons, and coyotes, and since our puppy is yet to have her full shots, we do not want to risk her getting sick by exposing her to the outside ground. but we HATE potty pads. (and who wants to go down 3 flights of stairs every 2 hours?!?) then we saw a tiktok about bark potty and IMMEDIATELY purchased it. even if it was too good to be true, we were willing to gamble $40.. but WOW. even after our pup had been using regular potty pads for 2 days while waiting for BP, when we first introduced her to the BP she immediately stepped up and squatted down. it has only been 2 days, but so far so good! i have yet to notice any smell even as she uses the bark potty as her main potty, so i am interested to see how long it lasts until there is an unbearable smell. my ONE complaint? the bark is easy to retrieve through the netting, which has become an occasional game for our puppy. so bark potty if you are reading this, please put more netting/make the square holes smaller :-)

Bark Potty

We have a 7 pound MinPin/Chihuahua and just moved into a condo with a patio. As soon as we moved, we had days of rain and I also wanted an option for in the middle of the night. This is working great for us! Since she is used to using bark due to landscaping, the transition was easy. We have not noticed a smell, but only use it for pee.

The bark works!

This bark works! No bugs, no smell, and no pee-paw tracks. I've had it for one month, the first time I purchased the product. My 10 lbs chihuahua uses the large 1x - 2x a day. I've used several of the following (multiple brands): real indoor grass, fake grass, and puppy pads; My chi will tinkle sprinkle on all of the above. The issue w/real indoor grass is it comes with tiny bugs. I tried spraying products on the grass to kill bugs. I let the grass dry before putting it down, but my pup began excessively licking her paws, and there were still bugs. The fake grass smells quickly. Artificial grass never smells fresh/like new after it's washed. The artificial grass also sheds fake grass and black plastic sand-like-pieces after it's washed. With the puppy pads, it was common for the urine to run toward my dog's paws while she tinkled. I would then have pee-paw tracks on my lanai tile. Surprisingly, the bark potty system resolved all of these issues - such a simple concept. - I recommend Potty Bark for smaller dogs. I'm thrilled I found an indoor potty that works. I'm ordering monthly. This product also comes with a built-in bag system. My pup won't poop indoors / on any indoor potty system ( I guess she needs the fresh air for her #2's, it's a cute and convenient idea for those with indoor poopers. A suggestion to the company: An option to purchase a washable waterproof cover to stretch over the cardboard area would help this product look aesthetically pleasing -with custom colors.

Be Patient cause it actually works!!!!!!

I want to leave a review because I want to help others. I have a 3 (just turned 4 actually) Maltese. I live in an apartment and have to walk her frequently. I also live on the 3rd level and have to take stairs multiple times a day, which is fine (it’s exercise for my pup and myself)! However, my Maltese hates the rain, it’s messy when taking her out to potty, snow (horrible) , the cold , only when it’s sunny are things on the up & up. I’m here to tell you my stubborn dog who LOVES going out doors (when it’s sunny) which also allows her to roll in the grass etc. If I can train her to use this potty ANYONE can train their pup! Again, it took a few months! YES I said “Months” because your dog isn’t going to get it over night. You gotta be very patient. She missed more than a few times and didn’t get it right sometimes. This was a learning curve for her. But she finally got it!! And I couldn’t have been more proud. I use treats as rewards and plenty of rubs!! This Bark Potty actually works and is VERY convenient! It allows me to let her potty on her own while I do ME! She is more independent. I work from home too and it allows me to not miss a beat all while not having to worry about her!! It’s an awesome product and deserves more stars and reviews!!

Not for puppies

The netting/mesh should be made a little smaller. As soon as i put it down my pup started digging and mouthing at the chips and he pulled them out with ease. I wish i could’ve used this product but its not safe for my pup.
