Description

Baytril is an antibacterial tablet for dogs and cats. These film-coated tablets are made without animal protein and are formulated for the management of diseases associated with certain bacteria including those causing skin, urinary and respiratory tract infections. Baytril kills a wide-range of disease-causing bacteria directly at the sight of infection and has been used for this purpose for over 20 years.

Uses

Baytril antibacterial tablets are indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract, prostate, liver, GI tract and other body systems..

Possible Side Effects

Contact your veterinarian if your pet shows signs of anorexia, diarrhea, vomiting, elevated liver enzymes, depression, lethargy, nervousness or any other adverse reactions or behaviors.

Drug & Food Interactions

Compounds that contain metal cations (e.g., aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium) may reduce the absorption of this drug from the intestinal tract.

Precautions

Prescribing antibacterial drugs in the absence of a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection is unlikely to provide benefit to treated animals and may increase the risk of the development of drugresistant animal pathogens. Administer orbifloxacin with caution in the presence of hepatic insufficiency/impairment. Please refer to the cat side of this package insert for Precautions related specifically to cats. Quinolones should be used with caution in animals with known or suspected central nervous system (CNS) disorders. In such animals, quinolones have, in rare instances, been associated with CNS stimulation, which may lead to convulsive seizures. Quinolones have been shown to produce erosions of cartilage of weight-bearing joints and other signs of arthropathy in immature animals of various species. The safety of orbifloxacin in animals that are used for breeding or that are pregnant and/or lactating has not been demonstrated.

    The tablets are HUGE

    By on

Not a good choice for a small breed dog as the tablets are HUGE - the size of a penny and at least twice as thick. I didn't realize when ordering that you can get this drug in a liquid (which I ended us getting from my vet), in flavored chewable tabs, in flavored soft chews and flavored powder. If you have a large breed dog that will take a pill, hidden in cheese or a pill pocket, in one gulp then you're golden. Otherwise opt for one of the other choices.

My dog has lived 4 years beyond expectations. He is now 15 years old! And going!

Cubby was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer(no biopsy) 4 years ago by a vet, with 3 mos to live. I looked at her and we left, never to go back to that vets office. Cubby has been on Baytril and prednisone for 3-4 years and I am certain that this is one of the reasons why he is still here. He has had no coughing for 2 weeks! I am so grateful to God that Cubby has been given many years of life beyond the death sentence he received from, well you know who. A lot of love goes a long way. He gets more love and care than any dog. That’s what Chewey stands for. Loving and caring. Cubby will be here years to come! How do I know? Because Chewey has been there for us. Just be aware that these pills are coated so if you plan to grind them up, you must first peel the coating off!
