    Do NOT focus on dominance!

By MotherofPo on Sep 7, 2021

Cesar Milan doesn’t have an educational background in animal behavior, and this is clear from the methods he puts forth in this book. Training is meant to teach an animal how to live safely in a human world, and that requires trust between person and animal. Teaching “dominance” techniques is a quick way to erode that trust and has been frowned upon by the dog training community. Focus on positive reinforcement instead! I recommend checking out Don’t Shoot the Dog by Karen Pryor instead (or anything by Ken Ramirez if you want to go more in depth on behavior mechanisms). You can also check out Brandon McMillan’s YouTube channel. Your pet should love you - NOT be afraid of you!
