Cleaning the Dog Bed Cover: Our dog bed covers are machine washable. Wash on cold, tumble dry. Our microfiber also does not shrink. As long as you wash on cold & tumble dry, they can be washed 1,000 times and they won’t shrink by more than fractions of a millimeter.
Cleaning the Foam: The foam can be cleaned, but it’s a bit more hassle than washing the cover. If there’s ever an accident or a spill on the foam, what you want to do is soak the affected area thoroughly with warm water and dish soap. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes. Then press out as much moisture as you can. Do not “wring out” the foam, because wet foam is very heavy and tears very easily. Leave it in a dry place. It might take a couple days to completely dry out, but when it does, it should be good as new.

Bed Measuring Guide
Are the beds waterproof?
The microfiber covers are water-resistant, but not 100% waterproof. Things like drool, licking or a wet dog coming in from the rain will NOT get through the fabric.
Microfiber is a very tightly woven fabric, so the "holes" are very very tiny. Drool, wet fur, etc will be blocked by the microfiber cover.
However - if you spilled a glass of water on the cover and let it sit for a long time, it WILL get through.
What if my dog won't use the bed?
While most dogs love the bed right away, it's not uncommon for some dogs to take up to a few weeks before getting used to a new bed. Don't worry, almost all dogs fall in love with the bed, it just takes some dogs longer than others.
Here are a few tips that have worked for other dog owners:
- Rub your hands all over the cover. It often helps to get your own scent on the bed.
- Lay on the bed yourself. This might get your dog interested in approaching and possibly stepping onto the bed.
- If your dog's old bed has a removable cover, take it off and lay it on top of the new bed. This can sometimes make the new bed seem more familiar.
- Put the bed in the exact spot where he lays while you're home. In my house, it's often right next to the couch. It doesn't need to stay in this spot, but it can often jump start the "trying out the new bed" process.
- Old fashion bribery. Get your dog to lay down on it, then bribe with a treat. Bribe every few minutes it stays on without getting up.
Most importantly though, just give it time.
Are the beds chew proof?
No, the cover is not made from chew resistant material. We use a furniture grade microfiber. It's "tear resistant" - meaning, it holds up better against nesting/digging than most types of dog bed covers. But dogs can chew through it if they're determined.
How do I clean my Big Barker products?
Dog Bed Covers
Our dog bed covers are machine washable. Wash on cold, tumble dry. Our microfiber also does not shrink. As long as you wash on cold & tumble dry, they can be washed 1,000 times and they won’t shrink by more than fractions of a millimeter. They’re also very easy to take on and off. Most dog beds just zip on a single side, but we use zipper around 3 sides.
Crate Pad Covers
The crate pad covers are also machine washable, however it’s easier to clean them with just a wet rag. Since they’re made with waterproof backing, don’t worry about getting the foam wet. If soiled, you can wipe with warm soapy water. Any dish soap will do. If you do choose to machine wash, use low heat. Dry on low for 10-15 minutes. IMPORTANT: Never use high heat settings in the washer or dryer, high heat will destroy the waterproof backing.
Waterproof liners
Machine washable. Wash on low heat, dry on low for no more than 10-15 minutes. Drying the liner on high temperature settings will destroy the waterproof backing.
Cleaning the Foam
The foam can be cleaned, but it’s a bit more hassle than washing the cover.
How do I know what size is best for my dog?
The most important measurement is the width of the bed. What you want to do is have your dog stand up straight, and measure from the bottom of the paw to the top of the hip or shoulder. This is the amount of room that your dog needs to be in a full 100% stretch position. Compare that measurement to the width of our sizes. You'll want an extra 3-4 inches. For example, if your dog measures 25 inches, you'll do great with the Large, which is 30" wide. But if your dog is 28 inches, you'll want to bump up to the 36-inch wide XL. Note: the foam composition is the same between the Large, XL, and Giant sizes. All 3 sizes can easily support a 300 lb dog if they have to.
10-Year Warranty.

Yay!!! I FINALLY found a bed my dog likes!!
By cats32669 on Dec 30, 2020
Nanuk is SUPER picky about his beds...over the past two years I have been searching for a new bed for him. It started as a search for a second bed. But, his original bed is almost 10 years old (it's been a great bed, but is no longer made) and his hips have been hurting lately. So, my search became more important. I have tried the Casper dog bed, Cordaroy dog bed, and the PupRug dog bed. Of the three, he liked the PupRug the most, but still only laid on it as a last resort and preferred his original bed. Finally, I found the Big Barker bed...Nanuk LOVED it as soon as it came out of the box!! He actually sleeps through the night now instead of getting up to change positions...and, he prefers Nanuk is SUPER picky about his beds...over the past two years I have been searching for a new bed for him. We've only had it for a few days now, so I can't say about the long-term effects found in the studies. But, so far, he actually sleeps through the night (he used to get up several times during the night to switch positions and get on and off his bed) and has a little more pep in his step. I definitely recommend it! … more

Dogs are loving their new bed!
By Bella on Feb 15, 2021
This bed does not sink to the floor when the dogs lay on it, it actually supports them! It is a bit pricey but when you consider the warranty and the fact you won't be wasting money on cheap beds that won't support your pup, it's definitely worth the investment!

She loved it
By Naps on Feb 5, 2021
Our English mastiff, Isabella only got to enjoy this one day before she passed on. But she laid on it all day. I plan to donate it to a shelter, but for a older dog with arthritis it was perfect even for just one day. Thanks Chewy.

Bed for pupper royalty
By HQUINN on Feb 11, 2021
I have a German Shepherd and she loves. this. bed. I can just about lay down beside her on it. The integrity of the memory foam is still in tact if I sit down on it so my hope is that this bed lasts a long time.

Dog seems very comfortable
By Nikki on Jan 30, 2021
My Cane Corso has plenty of room on this bed. It supports her weight very well. She has had two tplo surgeries and I believe it has kept her comfortable and potentially helped with her recovery.

High quality bed
By SleepyHead on Nov 28, 2020
I wish i would have been able to get this bed for my pup at a younger age. Admittedly, the price kept me away. I deliberated for over a year before i finally took the plunge and bought this bed. It is high quality, American made, heavy bed. My dog didn't take to it right way as she was abnormally attached to her pancake bed, however, she's coming around and I know it's much better for her joints. She's 13...change is hard! Keep your dogs joints protected and get this bed at a younger age than i did!

This bed is amazing.
By Proz514 on Jan 11, 2021
Bought this for my new 100 lbs GSD rescue. I am now jealous of his luxurious deep sleeps. It is a pricey bed, but I don't think I will ever have to replace it and the quality is 100% top notch.

Best beds on the market
By carol on Nov 9, 2020
This is the 2nd Big Barker bed that I have purchased. My first one I bought in 2013 and it is still like new. I bought the waterproof liner. There are a lot of beds that do not give you the option of a waterproof liner. I have two senior dogs and one of them has accidents. After ruining two other beds (not Big Barker) I will now only purchase Big Barker. These beds are very well made especially for older dogs. This is the only bed I will buy.

If only they made these about 4 feet longer
By ZenasBed on Oct 27, 2020
If only they made these beds about 4 feet longer, it would be mine. When I first got this delivered, I was alarmed because it was rolled up and flat. But it didn't take all that long to puff out to it's full size and shape. Dogs were not sure about it at first. It looked so comfy, I slept on it half the night. If it were 4 feet longer, I'd trade them beds. And Zena the Rotty really loves this bed. It's a little tall for my old American Eskimo but once he gets up there, he loves it too.

Big bed!!!!
By Huge on Dec 20, 2020
I only gave it a 3 because it was way too big and did not fit in our living room. We had to buy a size smaller. It has not been used yet because we had it brought to our business to have for the dogs there.
