Feeding Instructions
  • Adult - Feed one can per 6-8lbs. of body weight per day.

  • Kittens - Feed up to two and a half times the adult amount per day.

  • Pregnant and Lactating Females - Allow free access to food. Feed at room temperature and refrigerate unused portion.

Adjust the amount of food you serve based on the age, size and activity level of your cat. Food should be fed at room temperature. Promptly refrigerate the unused portion. Fresh water should be available at all times.

Transition Instructions

Begin the transition by mixing both the current food with their new food together. Gradually decrease the amount of the current food while increasing the amount of new food. Continue to do this over a 7-day period.

Transitioning slowly can result in fewer digestive issues and better acceptance of the new food.

Remember to be patient. For finicky, older, or cats with health conditions, the transition time could take 10 days or up to 2 weeks.

    Chicken. Pumpkin. Liver.

    By on Top 500 Contributor

These are all the things my cats adore in other foods. I was lucky enough to buy a case at a deal price and I guess that's where my luck ended. They don't like Blackwood, at least on it's own. I've had to grind up kibble and sprinkle it over their meals...not what I'd hoped when I'm trying to get them to eat better foods. Have a great day! Leslee, Joey and Scout

Kittens loved it, but did not help GI issued

    By on

I adopted 3 kittens in August, and even though they were tested and are parasite free, two of them have had never ending diarrhea. I called Chewy.com customer service and talked with them about it, and Blackwood foods were recommended due to quality ingredients, easily digested, etc. I decided to try several flavors of canned plus the kitten dry. The change in diet appealed in a huge way to their taste buds, but did not at all help their diarrhea issues. I now have the kittens on a vet prescribed diet which they do not care for but do eat, and I am hoping to go back to Blackwood eventually.

no one likes it : (

I tried this because it was on sale. Unfortunately out of 5 cats and 1 dog I can't get anyone to eat it. I even waited till the morning when they are all hungry and put a topper on it. Four of them licked off most of the topper and once they reached the food they took a few licks and stopped.

Very moist and easily shareable for four cats

They all love it! Whoever gets to it first gets the most but they don’t leave any of it! Other cans have been left to eat later.

    Cats like it

My cats really like this! Its very soft. I always add a bit of water to wet food to make sure they get enough. They seem to like it mushy!

    Great ingredients!

I have been on the search for the best cat food for our 2 Maine coons for the past 2 years. My girl cat has digestive issues, so I didn’t want to test this out on her. Instead, I tested it out on our boy cat who will literally eat anything. On paper, this food is really great. Looking at the ingredients, it’s comparable to nature’s variety instinct which is what I’ve been feeding him. The first few times I gave him Blackwood he gulped it down right away and seemed pretty happy with it. Over the next week however he started eating it more and more slowly. He would pause between mouthfuls. He would eat half and then turn away and go for his sister’s food. Picky eaters like it!

    By on

I have 3 cats, all of whom are all picky eaters. They like the chicken flavor a lot - I've bought multiple times and so far, so good. They didn't eat the turkey flavor, but they don't like turkey as well as chicken across any brand.

    Won't Eat This

    By on

Impressive list of ingredients and sourced in the USA. Unfortunately, neither one of my cats would eat it. They typically eat Fancy Feast Classic Chicken Pate. Hoping to get them on a healthier diet and disappointed that this was not a winner

    Not chunks in gravy

    By on

Seems like a good quality canned food from a smaller manufacturer. But this is definitely more of a pate texture and not chunks and gravy as listed. Our cats are pretty picky on texture and aren't finishing their bowls of this.
