    Great puppy food

    By on

We tried several puppy foods including some old standby favorites. Even when transitioning very slowly over a number of days, just could not get the soft stools and intermittent diarrhea under control. We were using wormer as per the veterinarian's recommendations. And running stool samples for Giardia and other protozoan parasites. Also ran tests for virus and parasites. All the tests were negative. We began to transition the puppies over to the Blackwood Puppy and within a few days the stools began to firm up. Now 3 weeks later the stools are wonderfully firm and the puppies are gaining weight and have plush coats. Great product in our opinion.

    Great food!

Had my pup on another premium food. She ate it well and looked great, but stools were horrible. Switched to this over a two day period. (Figured her stools couldn't get any worse!) Literally, within 24 hours, stools were beautiful! Dark, well formed, no odor and small. My adult dog eats Blackwood Whitefish & Oatmeal. I've switched to less expensive premium foods a couple of times, but nothing has been able to beat Blackwood.

    Did not work out well...

    By on

I'm not sure what in this food caused issues. I switched my rescue puppy to this when he was about 12-13 weeks old and had finished the food that came with him. He's very active and needed to put some weight on, so I was hoping that the high protein content would aide in keeping him fueled and put some weight on. After about a week or two, he had no interest in eating and ended up with very concerning stool. I took him off, fasted, and put him on a bland diet at the advice of the ER vet and when he improved I tried putting him back on, but ended up with the same issues. There was no difinitive answer to what the issue was or why, and I honestly wasn't interested in putting him through testing I'm not sure what in this food caused issues. After extensive research into canine nutrition I believe it's just the content of protein that he wasn't able to digest properly and caused GI issues. Please just be aware of this possibility and be sure you are talking with your vet before switching to make sure it's the best choice. … more

    happy results

    By on

I have a labrador puppy about 3 months old who when I first got him was on a different & store brand food that not only made him super gassy but also made his poop fluctuate from watery to solid. On top of that, he wasn't always interesting in the food and wanted my older dogs food. NOW, after switching to Blackwood my puppy is thriving. His poop has been more consistent and feeding time is great because he is interested in eating each time. He isn't gassy like before either which is a super plus!

    Never a recall

    By on

I researched various foods for a puppy who was severely undernourished and came across a site that had foods that had never been recalled. This one was on the list and it seems that Eowyn, Shieldmaiden of Morrigan loves it.

    my puppy hates this food

    By on

He hates it! Walks away from his bowl unless hes starving. Not to mention the kibble size is for pond fish, not a large breed puppy. He used to eat every single meal now I’m lucky if he eats half of it with this food. Ugh, the search is on again

    Both puppies love it

    By on

This product is new to me, but after reading the ingredient list, I wanted to give it a try. Both my Shetland Sheep Dog pups, Molly, 12 months old, and Misty, 4 months old, both love it. It’s only been about 10 days but they eat eagerly, and don’t leave even one kibble. Not like when on the other puppy food, TOTW. I think we have a winner, and the adult foods look just as good. Thank you Blackwoods! L A

    So so kinda food

    By on

It smells good, looks good, and kibble size is good. The ingredients seemed good too. The dogs ate it ok but they started to eat poop too which signifies a lack of nutrients on their food. We got this to try as price was too good to pass up. We have tried a few food to see what out babies preferred.

    Great for puppies

    By on

My lab puppy did really well on this food. Beautiful coat, pretty even growth, no allergies/sensitivities, I’ve got no complaints. I also really liked the kibble size. Perfect for training!
