About BLUE Buffalo

Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

Questions & Answers

7 Customer Questions

My dog cannot tolerate poultry of any kind, even when in preservatives. Is there any in this dog food? Currently, she is on Royal Canin Hydrolyzed Protein and tolerates it well but would like to find her an alternative food in case she gets tired of the one she is on.
Answer by ChewyOct 21, 2019
This diet does not contain poultry of any kind. For a complete list of ingredients, click the “Nutritional Info” tab, next to the “Description” tab, just under the product photos.

How many cups in a 22pound bag
Answer by ChewyOct 04, 2020
There will be approximately 4 cups of kibble per pound. The 6 pound bag will have close to 24 cups and the 22 pound bag close to 88 cups.

What is the temperature range the food should be kept at? Is it safe to store in garage?
Answer by ChewySep 16, 2021
We do not recommend storing pet foods (even unopened bags or cans) in the garage or shed where temperatures can go above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Exposure to air, light, hot temperatures and humidity speeds up the rate at which foods degrade. To limit these effects, keep dry foods in their original packaging and store in a cool, dry location. The kitchen pantry or an inside closet works great.

how much would you feed a 80lbs golden doodle
Answer by ChewyJun 28, 2021
The feeding chart may be located by clicking the “Feeding Instructions” tab, on the product page. The amount of food your pet requires will vary depending on their age, breed and activity level, but a pet's weight is one of the most accurate ways to judge how much to feed them.

Miracle food!

The vet thought my yorkie Mimi was having severe allergic reaction to protein, so we tried a chicken hydrolyzed protein that did seem to show some improvement, but I decided to try this one to avoid chicken. In less than a month she has almost totally stopped scratching and is no longer licking her paws. I may try the non-hydrolyzed form eventually, but for now am so pleased with this! And mimi is much happier

Excellent product

My dog was recently diagnosed with IBD. This hydrolyzed salmon food has made a HUGE difference! I love that there is no poultry, corn, wheat or soy. Along with his new medication, this food has made my dog healthy again. He has energy and his symptoms have drastically decreased. I'm very happy and grateful for this high-quality product.

not for my dog

I really thought this would be a better option for my dog since it’s fish. But it’s giving him terrible upset stomach and he really doesn’t like it. Going back to his royal cain food.

Disappointed

This food gave my pittie diarrhea so bad none of us slept through the night. He would go a minimum of 6 times during the day. Then he’s up between 1a and 4a to go again. Tried adding pumpkin but to no avail. The vet is switching him to a different brand. He also gained weight.

Perianal Fistula

My 9 year old GSD has been diagnosed with perianal fistula. After years of scratching, ear problems (No mites or yeast - just itchy), butt and paw licking, allergy meds and several vets and vet visits, perianal fistula has been his problem all along. He finally had an outbreak. I am attaching a picture of the fistula. It is painful for him. Scratching has stopped but the butt licking continues but is much less. His ears are much better. He loves this food and has been doing well. I would give 5 stars but there’s a big increase in his stool. Lots of it. He does better on this food than Royal Canines hydrolyzed food and it is a bit less expensive. Happy to have something that works for him. He can have NOTHING else but hydrolyzed food or he will have an outbreak. Thank goodness I found something that helps him. Chewy is excellent. Best customer service. Great company.

Our Dog Likes it!

Our dog loves the taste. Because she is on a hydrolyzed diet, which is very limited, I sometimes will buy a small bag of Blue Buffalo, to give her for treats; mainly when the regular treats are out of stock. She eats a different brand for her everyday kibble.

TERRIBLE DO NOT waste your money

This food has made my dog so sick. I switched from purina hf to this. Big big mistake. Now I still have over half a bag that I can’t use and have to buy something else. Very disappointed.

My guy loves it!

My guy loves his new Blue Buffalo kibble. His stools are better and he's licking and biting less. Five stars!

Great Product

My 6 year old English bulldog was diagnosed with Protein Loss Enteropathy and requires a hydrolized food. She will eat this brand whereas none of the others would she touch, and appears to be helping her retain the must needed nutrients needed to gain energy and B12 losses. Her stools are firming up and hopefully eventually gain some of the weight back that she has lost.

Game changer!

This has been the best dog food for our 80lb lab mix. She has tried the other vet prescribed hydrolyzed protein and she was miserable. Red paws, ear infections never stopped even with allergy pills and allergy shots. She was never 100% well and it broke our hearts. We researched and researched and decided to try this one. For the first time in over 6-7 years she is off allergy medication completely and has no red paws and no more infections. We are glad we found this food. If your dog is still having trouble with the same issues our dog had with the other prescription food, try this! You won’t regret it!
