Yes! If you have a paper copy of your vet’s authorization, email a picture to vetdiet@chewy.com, start a chat, or fax it to 1-800-619-7973.
Can I use a veterinarian’s authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state?

About BLUE Buffalo
Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

More like fudge than pâté
By SunCats on Oct 28, 2019
We insisted that our vet write a prescription for this food instead of the normal Hills/Purina that they want to sell since our cats love the Indoor Freedom canned food that we had been using. We checked ahead of time to make sure that this canned food was also a pâté style (since our cats do not like the shredded varieties). When our order arrived and we tried the first can out on our cats, I found that the consistency of the food was more like a fudge than a soft pâté. After being refrigerated, it ended up being very rubbery. The reaction from our cats has been mixed. One of our cats seems to like being able to eat the food like she does the dry food (since it ends up looking like small kibbles after we have chopped it up a bit). But, the cat that needs this food the most is not so sure, and won't eat this as well as she did the previous food. Since we can only order this by the case, it will be a while before I find out if I just received a bad batch. … more

Cats seem to like it!
By Bethspets on Nov 8, 2019
My cats seem to like it - it needs to be "mushed" because it is pretty 'solid' wet food. I got it because of the cranberry in it for the UTIs that my female older cat seems to get. Time will tell if it helps - this is a new product for her.

Healthy and cat loves it
By Westernbabe on Oct 4, 2019
Prescription foods are so hard to find the right one that your cat will actually eat. This is one that both my cats love. It is a little thick, so I do add some water to make it easier for my cats to eat. This is the best brand and I have tried them all.

Good quality-strange texture
By Laura33 on Jul 31, 2019
Recommended, with reservations. Our cat had been prescribed a different renal food, and wouldn't eat it once the transition got to 100%. I did some research, and found this Blue food. I felt good about the ingredients in this food, as we had been feeding him grain-free previously, and no by-products. The vet went ahead and provided a Rx for us to try. Our cat would eat it, but I had to mash it up, as the pieces of carrots and sweet potatoes are rather large and abundant. As others have mentioned, the texture of this food is rather strange. The best way I can describe it is that it's exactly like canned refried beans. This in a way was great for our cat, as he only has 2 teeth left. But Recommended, with reservations. But I would have to add a bit of water to cut down on the sticky, gooey texture. We made it through about a case-and-a-half before changing vets, and trying yet another renal food he recommended that it turns out our cat REALLY likes! I would definitely recommend trying to get a sample from a vet to try before committing to an entire case. It's a very unique canned food in texture. Some may not like it. … more

he likes it!
By sueny on Jul 31, 2019
Having just gotten a diagnosis of kidney issues with our cat Bruno, we were hopeful that this food would work, because the ingredients in the other cat foods for kidney support, that are sold through our vet, do not appear to be of high quality. Bruno didn't like this food the first day, but by the second day, he was all in. I find the texture to be very thick, so I thin the cat food with warm water until it makes a smooth, loose paste.

No cats will eat this
By Ruthless on Aug 29, 2019
My kidney kitty absolutely refuses to eat this no matter how many times I try to sneak it in. I’ve tried with other renal kitties I pet sit for and none like it. In fact, one cat that did like it, vomited from it. Unfortunately a thumbs down from all cats.

Finicky cat won't eat it
By Lwdavis on Jul 10, 2019
My cat is extremely finicky, and I've tried most major high quality normal foods and he rejects them. Since his diagnosis with Chronic Kidney Disease, I've tried this and one other brand, tried warming the can in warm water, put tuna juice and canned cooked chicken broth on it, did the 25% new with 75% old....no matter what, he walks away from it. He loves the Blue Buffalo dry version of this, so I thought he would like this also, but he won't eat it. He has been fed Blue Buffalo as his normal diet for years, and they are a great company...but this product was not appealing to him. Hope this helps. … more

Sweet Potatoes Harmful
By Itrustchewy on Sep 16, 2019
To cats on a daily basis. Why do they sell this? Blue Buffalo sucks. I used to feed my cat their dry food. Turns out they are garbage and there was a lawsuit. He now has KD.

palatable?
By MinTN on May 20, 2019
My vet recommended we try this food as she heard about it at a conference and said it was touted as being "very palatable." Our CKD kitty likes Blue Buffalo chicken, duck and salmon. She will not touch this stuff. None of our cats will. The texture is very dry, like a loaf. Why on earth would you create something like that for cats who are struggling to eat? They like gravy, moisture, smooth textures. Now I have spent $60 on food no cat will eat. I don't know why it is so difficult to make kidney diets that taste good but it must be a real struggle. Royal Canin kidney-A is the best on the market. My cat will eat that occasionally.
