Yes. If you have a paper copy of your veterinarian's authorization, you can upload a scan or photo to the Prescriptions section in your account or your order confirmation. You can also email it to vetdiet@chewy.com.
Can I use a veterinarian's authorization if it was written by a veterinarian out of state? Yes. We accept valid authorizations from anywhere in the United States, Canada, and U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Why do I need a veterinarian's authorization?
Veterinary diets are formulated with the precise ingredients and nutrients needed to address specific medical issues. Because these diets are formulated for medical issues, veterinary authorization is needed to advise you on the best way to give them to your pet and to monitor your pet's health while they are on the diet.
Can someone else (such as a caretaker or family member) place an order for my pet?
Yes, but we'll need them to contact us and provide the full name of the pet's owner after the order is placed. This is so the veterinary clinic can locate your pet's records when we contact them. Email us at vetdiet@chewy.com or call us 24/7 at 1-800-672-4399.
Do authorizations expire?
Yes. Your veterinarian will tell us when your authorization expires and how many refills you have before they'd like you to check back in with them.
Can I set up automatic refills? Yes. Sign up for Autoship at Checkout and select how often you need refills. We'll automatically ship your veterinary diets for as long as your authorization allows. If you run out of refills or your authorization expires, we'll automatically contact your veterinarian for a new authorization.
What if I have more questions? How can I reach the veterinary diets team at Chewy?

About BLUE Buffalo
Blue Buffalo began with unconditional love and some furry inspiration from a large breed Airedale, Blue. When Blue's family started a pet food company, their vision was clear. They wanted every pet parent to be able to feed their pet with the same care they would feed family. So they created the #1 natural pet specialty food to help furry family members live happy, healthy lives. Of course, they named it after Blue.

This is a game changer!!
By Arrowmatherapy on Mar 15, 2021
With every other prescription food on the market having horrible ingredients I was not willing to use , thank goodness I stumbled upon this one. My little French bulldog has been sick for four months and it became a fight for your life sickness that resulted in complete food intolerance. She was skin and bones couldn’t hold anything down and her body didn’t want to absorb any nutrition and needed this hydrolyzed protein. It became the game changer that turned the corner for her in a positive manner. She loves the taste of both the kibble and the canned and I am so appreciative that blue buffalo makes this blend!!

Good Product
By Monica on Apr 3, 2021
This food works well for my Westie dog who, at 14, developed skin issues for the first time in her life. I recently began using this food -- hydrolyzed protein -- to help determine whether or not she had a protein allergy. It turns out that she is allergic to chicken! There is a strong fishy smell, because, after all it is fish!

Stinky Salmon My dog Loves
By MinnieMoo on Jan 9, 2021
My dog has been on Hydrolyzed Dog food for a couple of years. I"ve been feeding her mostly Purina Hydrolyzed Dry dog food with the occasional can hydrolyzed chicken. If I just feed her the dry food her stools are like hard rock pebbles. By feeding her the wet dog food it helps to soften her stools. I decided to try Blue Buffalo Salmon for a change of flavor for her and she loves it. Her stools are even better. I'm on the fence to order more because of the strong fish smell. Doesn't help with her bad breath. For now I am going back to the can chicken along with the Missing Link to see if that will make her stools softer. As for the food not being to the top of the can it's probably measured My dog has been on Hydrolyzed Dog food for a couple of years. GOOD SUBSTITUTE
By CAROL on Mar 2, 2021
Couldn't get BB Alligator and the vet suggested the HF and my dog likes it. No allergy problems, which means no vet bills. I like that!

Untrustworthy
By JCM22 on Nov 30, 2020
Blue Buffalo seems untrustworthy. I'm not one to overrreact to dog food reviews but something about BB just seems hinkey. I'll stick with hills or royal canin or another established company backed by veterinary nutritionists. BB seems like a boutique company with no credibility trying to jump on the bandwagon.

Our dog LOVES Blue Buffalo HF
By BoogiesMom on Apr 2, 2020
I recently found out from our vet that our dog had food allergies. Besides other allergy interventions, I was also advised to change his diet to Blue Buffalo HF. I was relieved to find that he LOVED the flavor of the food. Thank you, Blue Buffalo.

My dog loves it!

My dog loves this dog food. It is very expensive however and when we figure out what his allergies are he will move on to something else, but in the meantime he is very happy eating this.

Better for her
By Phil on Aug 1, 2019
Lily’s completely off chicken and loves this food. Her coat is softer and she’s not scratching and biting herself as much!
