    My dog approves!

    By ALE0911 on Mar 27, 2019

My dog normally would eat anything it seems. However since she started having kidney issues, her appetite dwindled. I bought several different foods because I know kidney disease patients appetite can be tricky and can change what they like. I've tried Royal Canin different flavors A, S, F and for right My dog normally would eat anything it seems. However since she started having kidney issues, her appetite dwindled. I bought several different foods because I know kidney disease patients appetite can be tricky and can change what they like. I've tried Royal Canin different flavors A, S, F and for right now- she prefers Blue Buffalo KS- Kidney Support. I know this may change and she may start leaning towards the other flavors. She's even turning down home cooking (kidney disease based) for Blue Buffalo. I trust Blue Buffalo to provide high quality ingredients and I'm happy she's approving of this. I add in Dave's low phosphorus, low protein wet dog food on the side to mix in her kidney supplements. (There are wonderful phosphorus binders out there that are very effective as well as supplements that help kidney health). … more

    My dog wouldn't touch it

By Kassiebree on Nov 28, 2018

I was hoping my old girl would like this food, but she wouldn't touch it. Not a single bite. My other dog wouldn't go for it either. Very disappointing.

    Good product for dry food

    By on

Even though my dog would not eat the wet food by Blue Buffalo kidney diet, he seems to like the dry food very much. I am so glad that he likes it as there are few products like it for dogs with kidney disease.

    This seems to be working

    By on

My dogs urine output has dropped using this food. She doesn't like it much though, so it is a challenge to get her to eat it. The other brands recommended made her violently ill, this one she is do quite well on. No diarrhea or vomiting which is a huge plus

Good food for dogs requiring controlled protein levels

    By on

I started my 8.5lb one and a half year old Maltipoo on this after she was diagnosed with a liver condition that affected her liver’s ability to do its job properly. She needs very controlled protein levels as she suffered bouts of Hepatic Encephalopathy as ammonia in her bloodstream built up (the byproduct of protein is ammonia) and her liver couldn’t handle it. The prescription liver diets have a whole host of excess stuff she doesn’t need. She also happens to be the pickiest eater in the world. People who claim their dog is picky have no idea. This dog has refused to eat 20 different brand dog foods and at times even refused home cooked meals. Unfortunately, low protein = low flavor. She’s also plagued with food sensitivities and an inflamed GI tract. She will only eat this kibble if she has no other option by the end of the day, but for her, that’s actually pretty good as some foods she refused to eat for days on end. Because it’s only 14% protein, I have a bit of room to spare in that department and add 1/8 teaspoon of Etta Says! Liver flakes to perk her interest in her food. Pleased to find a prescription kibble that isn’t made of cheap, lousy ingredients! … more

Finally a good food I Trust

    By on

Finally there's a product I am comfortable giving my Lil Big Girl There is no by products and no ingredients that I can't identify what it is. When Akira was 1st diagnosed with Kidney Disease our vet recommend Hills but the ingredients and the gelatinous texture turned both of us off. I just can't give something that doesn't even have any natural ingredients I trust to any of my Furry babies. I am very pleased with the Blue Veterinary brand and Akira likes the taste she is eating it and licks her bowl clean

dexter will eat a few kibbles, he wouldnt touch his previous kidney food

    By on

my dog got leptospirosis at 5 months old, he went into immediate kidney failure. he was put on perscription dog food for kidney function which he hated so much,m i had to grind it up in a blender and froce spoon feed him. my vet only sells one type of perscription kidney food, so, when i found the blue buffalo kidney perscription food, which is made with real chicken vs his previous food with chicken meal crap, no actual meat, i had to try it. my veternarian approved it, and my dog, Dexter actually is starting to eat some kibble on his own. he doesnt eat much at a time, but, at least he is showing some interest in eating kibble on his own again. i am so happy to find a kidney perscription food my dog got leptospirosis at 5 months old, he went into immediate kidney failure. he was put on perscription dog food for kidney function which he hated so much,m i had to grind it up in a blender and froce spoon feed him. my vet only sells one type of perscription kidney food, so, when i found the blue buffalo kidney perscription food, which is made with real chicken vs his previous food with chicken meal crap, no actual meat, i had to try it. my veternarian approved it, and my dog, Dexter actually is starting to eat some kibble on his own. he doesnt eat much at a time, but, at least he is showing some interest in eating kibble on his own again. i am so happy to find a kidney perscription food tha tis appealing enough to get my dog eating some of it on his own after about 8 months of forceably spoon feeding him all his meals. thaank you blue buffalo … more

    Good Rx Food

    By on

My dog likes this food and his values are going in the right direction. It is a bit on the pricey side which I deducted a star for.
