    Cat is okay with it

By Kittay on Jan 5, 2020

This food is on rotation along with the Purina, KD and Hills Kidney can foods for my cat. My cat loves the dry kibble version of this food. I mix it with bone broth by Stella and Chewy to make it more like a regular pate and sprinkle some of the dry food on top and sometimes he eats a lot of it and sometimes he just eats a bit. I'd say he likes it just as much as the Purina, KD and Hills kidney foods (which is to say he doesn't love it but will eat enough of it to satisfy his hunger). … more

    More like fudge than pâté

By SunCats on Oct 28, 2019

We insisted that our vet write a prescription for this food instead of the normal Hills/Purina that they want to sell since our cats love the Indoor Freedom canned food that we had been using. We checked ahead of time to make sure that this canned food was also a pâté style (since our cats do not like We insisted that our vet write a prescription for this food instead of the normal Hills/Purina that they want to sell since our cats love the Indoor Freedom canned food that we had been using. We checked ahead of time to make sure that this canned food was also a pâté style (since our cats do not like the shredded varieties). When our order arrived and we tried the first can out on our cats, I found that the consistency of the food was more like a fudge than a soft pâté. After being refrigerated, it ended up being very rubbery. The reaction from our cats has been mixed. One of our cats seems to like being able to eat the food like she does the dry food (since it ends up looking like small kibbles after we have chopped it up a bit). But, the cat that needs this food the most is not so sure, and won't eat this as well as she did the previous food. Since we can only order this by the case, it will be a while before I find out if I just received a bad batch. … more

    Good quality-strange texture

    By on

Recommended, with reservations. Our cat had been prescribed a different renal food, and wouldn't eat it once the transition got to 100%. I did some research, and found this Blue food. I felt good about the ingredients in this food, as we had been feeding him grain-free previously, and no by-products. The vet went ahead and provided a Rx for us to try. Our cat would eat it, but I had to mash it up, as the pieces of carrots and sweet potatoes are rather large and abundant. As others have mentioned, the texture of this food is rather strange. The best way I can describe it is that it's exactly like canned refried beans. This in a way was great for our cat, as he only has 2 teeth left. But Recommended, with reservations. But I would have to add a bit of water to cut down on the sticky, gooey texture. We made it through about a case-and-a-half before changing vets, and trying yet another renal food he recommended that it turns out our cat REALLY likes! I would definitely recommend trying to get a sample from a vet to try before committing to an entire case. It's a very unique canned food in texture. Some may not like it. … more

    Disappointed

    By on

I was at first excited about buying a good grain free kidney prescription food. However it is very thick, dry and pasty. I blend a small amount with other prescription food with water and warm it up. Our cat will eat it this way. So it takes some work. If you have that kind of time then buy it. If not then this may not be a wise choice. I am also hoping that BB offers this in smaller can size. I’m wasting some because I won’t keep a can more than two days.

Blue Buffalo K M cat canned -- not so tasty

This is good for Frito but he is not fond of it. I am not sure if it is the texture or what, but he does not like it.

So dense we have to add water

    By on

My cat is missing half her teeth so she has a hard time chewing. She needs to be on a pate wet food so that she doesnt have to chew. And although we arent fully convinced that we need to be completely grain-free, we have observed that she gets the runs if she eats foods with a lot of corn in them. So when she had to go on renal support diet I was torn. Despite gradual introduction, all the other prescription diets gave her diarrhea because of the corn. Then I was pleasantly surprised to learn that blue buffalo made a line of prescription food and that the kidney diet was a pate. So we ordered a case to give it a shot. (BTW I wish we could order a smaller supply. My vets office had sample packs of other brands for sale.) I set the food out for my cat, she sniffed it and she tried to eat it. She licked it aggressively for a good 5 minutes but barely any of the food got in her mouth because it is so dense. Then she loudly meowed and went away hungry still. My cat is missing a lot of her top front teeth so she has resorted to this aggressive licking pate foods into her mouth because the few teeth she has arent that effective at tearing up her food. Its pretty effective for her in other brands but this stuff.. it is SOLID. She just cant get after it the way she can with other foods. So then I cut it up into chunks of pate for her. That worked a little better but still, it was more like chunks of moist kibble than wet food. She still had to chew it and I could tell she was just swallowing it whole and that it was uncomfortable. Truly, this pate is so dense it shouldn't be called pate. This is a pate that requires chewing. My cat likes the taste of it but it's too much work for her to eat it. So we have resorted to mixing in a teaspoon of warm water to every can to soften it up. It's quite the disgusting endeavor but it seems to work quite well at getting it to a consistency she will eat so I just plug my nose. I appreciate that Blue Buffalo is anti-fillers, I really do. But could it kill them to just add a few extra drops of water? … more

    Liked for a few days

    By on Top 500 Contributor

Mine liked it for a few days when I purchased it from a vet's office to try. She than stopped liking it, but I find that true of most renal foods (Purina also). It would be nice to have all Renal RX in smaller cans. She is currently eating renal Royal Canin T canned and Blue Buffalo KM kibble along with some non-RX food. It is nice that Chewy offers Blue Buffalo KM now.

    Cat wouldn't eat it

This is probably a very good food but our cat turned her nose up at it.
