My cats transitioned to this food from another Blue Buffalo chicken recipe & it was an easy transition. The pieces are the same size. They seem to enjoy this food a lot more, & to my nose, it doesn’t have any off putting smell, which to be honest the other one did. The bag is smaller & about the same price, which hurts the wallet a little bit, but if they’re happy, I’m happy.
At first, I thought it was a little too 'healthy' for them to like the taste. They had had too many artificially flavored foods I think at first, but once they had it on hand and we got rid of the friskies, they came to love it. It beat out the other healthier dry foods we tried out on them. This is the only flavor they show interest in from this brand, but they will beg to be petted while they munch on this chicken adult one. Also helpful, the senior cats are able to easily eat this whole without having to contend with breaking it down with their teeth (or lack of them). The small kibbles are a good size. One thing, you may want to put out multiple bowls if you have multiple cats, and/or change out the unused portion regularly. The cats will 'sift' through the small kibble while eating it sometimes, resulting in a lot of extra saliva getting into the food that I have not seen when they are pulling larger kibble brands out piece by piece to eat.
We choose Blue Wilderness for our cats because the ingredients list meets with our standards, the kibble is small and grain-free so it doesn't cause issues for them, and Emma and Jack love the flavor. Our family gives it a thumbs up.
This dry kibble is waaayy more nutritious than Friskies and helped me transition my adopted, finicky girl from Friskies to a nearly 100% Carnivore Diet. Cats are 100% Carnivores and their bodies can not utilize the carbs added. I wish you didn’t have any carbs in this food. I still add a little Blue Buffalo to my cat’s freeze dried raw food because she thinks it is kitty crack. I would recommend this food to anyone insisting on feeding dry food to their cats over other market brands. Fresh, raw, or freeze dried is much more nutritious for your felines.
This food has made my picky senior cat eat again! So, a little back story. My kitty started getting pickier with his dry food when I was feeding him wellness ONE salmon. I always came home to him meowing for wet food when he had a full bowl of his wellness ONE dry food right in front of him… I knew I had to find a more suitable dry food for him. I read why cats will beg for food when they have food in front of them and it said “cats will starve themselves until they get what they want. Either that being wet food or a more tastier dry food.” Right when I opened this bag of blue he smelled the food and went crazy! He was purring loud, meowing loud! I was so happy to see him act this way! My cat before blue wilderness used to weigh 7 pounds…. I’ve had this dry food for a month and he’s back to his 13 pounds!
I got a bag of dry food before but my cat did not like. So I ordered this one, the picky boy once smelled the food immediately ate. I like it has higher percentage of protein.
Even though cats can get tired of the same food, this product has staying power. It is also very nutritious, as we can see on the cats' fur and general health.
This dried doesn't go to waste. Pour out a few tablespoons at a time in a fresh dish so it doesn't go stale. Keep a pan of clean water not too near by. I supplement their diet with half an half and sometimes albacore tuna. Sometimes also friskies pate turkey an giblets dinner, but they often tire of that last one.
We had been getting a different brand of grain free kibbles, but that no longer was available to us locally. We tried the same brand with rice and chicken from the local store and the cats would take a few bites and walk away. Went to Chewy and found the Blue buffalo grain free kibbles and the cats are happy eaters again!
This food is the base for all my dry feeding strategies for my three cats. I feed in conjunction with Wilderness Salmon, science diet all around formula and science diet oral health (which I cut in two and feed 8 kibble, 16 halves, per cat per day) for all my dry food requirements.
